What you will do

Directs the discovery of opportunities to create advantaged business models to drive higher structural revenues and margins while developing and deploying a structured change management and integration methodologies. Partners with Domain and Field Operations leaders to select and implement appropriate changes and to achieve major business initiatives including acquisitions, footprint expansion, and strategic partnerships. Recommendations are presented to senior and corporate management for approval and commencement of action plan / investment. Drives further linkage by executing through financial reviews, due diligence, and negotiation support.

• The Director of M&A possesses a strong network of industry peers and consultants to research and obtain information about acquisition targets and competitor information.

• President, BSNA, to assist with the communication and presentation collateral for the Corporate Executive team, Board of Directors and employees.


• VP & GM BU and their team to assist in the creation of the M&A strategic plan and conduct and interpret financial metrics, analysis, identify and KPIs.


• Enterprise M&A to create deal structure and execute closing.


• Director, Finance/Controller to create and drive financial modeling and non-financial quantitative metrics and complete due diligence.


• BSNA Legal to execute due diligence and support close.


• VP, Human Resources to execute due diligence, integration strategy and deployment with the HR strategic plan.


• Sales, Operations, Engineering and Product Development to link the strategic plan to the financial and product development strategies, processes, and metrics.

• Consults with the VP/GM HVAC & Controls to establish M&A Strategy framework for HVAC & Controls. Develops a strategic framework and methodology to assess core competencies and capture existing institutional knowledge as well as explore and evaluate external HVAC & Controls market, customers, competitive, product, distribution and supplier intelligence, including SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, Threats) and gaps.  Formulates business plans/metrics addressing these “white spaces” which may involve internal initiatives, external alliances, joint ventures and/or acquisitions.


• Leverages internal and external network to identify and prioritize acquisition and strategic partnership targets.


• Prepares presentations for VP/GM and Senior Management Team to present acquisition strategy and business analysis to BSNA President and other Senior Management


• Leads cross functional team to conduct due diligence review.


• Partners with Enterprise M&A team to create deal structure and close strategies.


• Leads cross functional team to establish integration strategy. Collaborates with Field Operations and HVAC & Controls leadership to implement integration plan.


• Creates financial and non-financial metrics to understand the state of the business and course of the plan.  Offers recommendations and analysis on course correction. Leads process for turning strategic discussions into actionable plans.  Develops practical implementation processes to commit the business to executing M&A strategic goals. 


• Prepares presentations for Senior Management Team to present M&A strategy, acquisition performance, and business analysis 


• Establish goal setting worksheets for all direct reports and ensure the goals are aligned to HVAC & Controls business objectives.  Establish a coaching and mentoring cadence through conducting monthly one on ones, career development, and annual performance reviews for direct reports.  Ensure it is cascaded into the regional operations teams.


• Is committed and practices the core values of JCI. 


• May lead team or teams of business subject matter experts to support and implement standard Johnson Controls business processes as part business system and tool deployment.


• Supports the budgeting process where appropriate


• Performs other related projects as assigned.

What we look for

• Bachelor’s degree and MBA required with a minimum of ten years of progressively more responsible consulting, M&A, Commercial, or GM experience with within a distributed field organization. 


• Past experience in leading a team in M&A strategy development. 


• Strong financial analysis and modeling skills.


• Superb analytical skills with a sound intuitive ability to work in a complex and dynamic global business.


• Excellent customer interaction / interview skills.


• Strong collaboration and change management skills.


• Demonstrated proficiency in writing presentations for global Executive audience.


• Comfort and confidence around Senior Management from around the globe.


• Prior strong experience in conducting acquisition and divestiture due diligence required.
