JOB SUMMARY:

The candidate will work as a member of a research team investigating the foundational mechanisms and effects of cognitive load in basic and applied settings, as well as determining mitigation strategies, and modeling the processes within these frameworks. Largely, the candidate will support the development of computational cognitive models that provide real-time or near-real-time analysis of loaded cognitive capacities in physically or mentally demanding environments, such as high workload, extended time-on-task, or multi-tasking environments. The candidate will also work with team members to parameterize behavioral and physiological metrics of fatigue, sustained attention, and workload to inform computational cognitive models.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Experience developing and/or applying computational cognitive models and/or machine learning models within applied settings
Statistical analysis expertise (e.g., R, MATLAB, SPSS, SAS, or equivalent)
At least one OOP/procedural programming language (e.g., Java, Python, C, C++, etc.)
Strong communication skills and ability to interact with customers
Experience identifying and resolving technical problems that affect cost, schedule, and performance
Passion for learning new knowledge and skills
Desire to work with others in a research environment
M.S. or Ph.D. in cognitive science, psychology, or related field
U.S. Citizenship and current, or ability to obtain, a DoD Security clearance (minimum Secret)

DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience developing models within the ACT-R cognitive architecture
Knowledge of physiological signal processing (EEG, eye tracking, etc.)
Knowledge of theories/model implementations of cognitive load

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills, attention to details, critical thinking ability, and creativity. Must be able to abstract from ambiguous and sometimes conflicting information to identify opportunities for improvement and factors that influence outcomes. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills used to effectively communicate and present complex information in terms appropriate to the audience. Incumbent will have well-developed research skills and knowledge of current data management principles, procedures, and other tools of the trade. Must be able to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously while balancing according to scope, budget and schedule.
