Job Description Summary

The Los Angeles Times is seeking an Accounting Supervisor to join our team. The postholder will be responsible for maintaining correct general ledger balances, preparing/reviewing journal entries, month-end closing entries, reviewing related account reconciliations, providing activity analysis to management for accounts and preparing required financial statement support to management, government agencies and auditors.

Job Description

Responsibilities:


  • Examine and analyze financial information such as balance sheets, income statements, monthly/quarterly operating results and ensure the overall integrity of the company's general ledger.

  • Prepare/review journal entries, bank reconciliations and account reconciliations/analysis.

  • Prepare/review schedules/analysis as required for annual external audit.

  • Support Finance/Accounting and other departments with reclassification and/or research requests.

  • Review analysis and journal entries of complex transactions.

  • Provide guidance on accounting treatments as needed.

  • Participate in leading special accounting and efficiency projects.

Qualifications:


  • Accounting: 4 years (Required).

  • Supervising: 1 year (Desired).

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Must be able to work cooperatively and adaptively in a team setting.

  • Must be able to work under pressure, multitask and produce high quality work in a deadline driven environment.

  • Must be able to utilize computers, software systems and tools.

  • Must be able to work irregular and/or long hours.

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or University in accounting or finance field. CPA or CPA candidate is desired.
