Job Description:

The Data Integration, Reporting and Analytics (DIRA) in the Research Computing Division at RTI International has an opening for an Early Career Data Liaison to support and promote data interoperability, contribute to development of informatics tools and analysis of complex data sets. This person will work closely with external data contributing scientists to gain an understanding of data, data sources, and standards to support and expand on the usability of the data repositories. A fundamental understanding of biology, experience with programming languages and demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.

The Data Liaison will have access to colleagues with expertise in genetics, genomics, high performance computing and software engineering who mentor junior staff to extend their skill set. Most work is accomplished by interdisciplinary teams, promoting innovation and collaboration.

The location of this position is Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

Responsibilities

- Act as a liaison between data contributors and software developers

- Assist data contributors in documenting studies and data generation methods to improve data usability

- Contribute to interdisciplinary teams; be a team player

- Assist data contributors in documenting studies and data generation methods to improve data usability

- Work with Data Coordinating Center (DCC) communication staff to develop data upload and data use documentation.

- Contribute to writing proposals

Qualifications

- BS in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biology or related discipline and at least 1year of experience. Equivalent experience equals a MS in related discipline.

- Experience with online collaboration tools such as Teams, Slack, SharePoint, Google GSuite

- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively in a professional voice that is tuned to different audiences.

- Experience in relational databases (SQL Server, MySQL, or PostgreSQL)

- Demonstrated experience with compiled and dynamic / scripting languages: e.g. Python, R

- Experience analyzing biological data

- To qualify, applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States and should not now or in the future, require sponsorship for employment visa status.

Preferred Experience:

- Handling multiple data modalities preferred

- Use and/or development of data analysis and/or data visualization tools, e.g. R

- Hands on data curation

- Software and data release documentation

- Analysis of 'omics' data, including sequence assembly and analysis
