Las Palmas Rehabilitation Hospital is a separate facility with newly renovated patient rooms, exercise equipment and cafeteria. POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist, assists the physical therapist in the practice of physical therapy. Performs physical therapy treatment for inpatients designed to restore function, prevent disability following disease, injury or loss of body parts and to relieve pain as prescribed by physician according to the treatment plans.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Patient Care: Carries out treatment plan as directed by P.T. Communicates any changes in patient's status to the supervising P.T. Keeps P.T. informed of need to re-assess the patient based upon changes in the patient status. Applies appropriate physical therapy techniques, procedures, exercises and therapeutic modalities based on current standards of clinical practice and state practice act. Utilizes rehab equipment in a safe and effective manner. Modifies the treatment session when indicated, in order to maximize patient progress, within the limits of the plan of care.

* Documentation: Completes documentation on the same day that treatment was rendered. Documents on all appropriate forms. Documentation is accurate and meets generally accepted professional standards.

* Supervision: direct activities of technicians, students and volunteers as assigned.

* Interdisciplinary Interactions: Communicates and collaborates with interdisciplinary team regarding: patient status, discharge plans, equipment needs, recommendations, patients who may benefit from Rehab Services but who don't have orders, all of which are based upon discussions with the supervising P.T. when appropriate.

* Quality: Assists the clinical supervisor with implementation of new programs as needed. Involved with Quality Assessment and Improvement Plan.

* Department compliance: complies with department Policy and Procedures, Safety/Infection Control Plans, OSHA, guidelines Employee Handbook and standards of regulatory bodies (The Joint Commission, Medicare, CARF, etc)

* Demonstrates Customer Service/AIDET principles and behaviors appropriately.

* Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS

* Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners

* BCLS

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Associates Degree in Physical Therapy Assistant

PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

* 1-2 years rehab experience preferred

* Knowledge of Physical Therapy principles and practices, general anatomy and physiology, diseases and post surgical conditions, body movements and functions, and medical terminology.

* Bilingual in English/Spanish
