Job Description:

Overall Purpose

Responsible for the planning and analysis of the outside plant facilities/network.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Analyzes growth trends for an assigned geographical turf to determine the need for placement of fiber and equipment for growth or relief or whether to delay capital expenditures. Updates forecasts based on analysis to size fiber and equipment called for by the planner on handoffs. Analyzes data and makes technology choices. This also includes the decisions needed to replace older technology being displaced by contractual obligations, damages, disasters or obsolescence. Provides detailed plans for fiber placement and sizing to accommodate both wireless and non-wireless requirements. Researches and assigns facilities for fiber-based service requests. Provides technical guidance to OSP Design Engineers and/or training to Engineering Assistants and new planners.

Under limited supervision, conducts project management of a small/medium project or phases of a larger project. Works as a team member on projects and may be responsible for ensuring projects are within allotted timeline and budget. May define a portion of project scope and objectives. Projects are typically moderately complex in nature, sometimes follow a repeatable framework, and require some analytical skills in defining scope and objectives. Coordinates activities of a project team and may identify resources. Creates detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, and status reports. Attends and may lead project meetings and is responsible for project tracking and analysis. Ensure adherences to quality standards and reviews project deliverables. Communicates to internal team members and possibly to client/vendors.


Qualifications

  • Typically a high school diploma, GED or equivalent related network experience; additional technical training desired.
  • Typically, 1-3 years network related technical experience.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in outside plant engineering/design or planning preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of outside plant. STEM degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of OSP facilities and workprints required.
