Job Description:

Aircraft Mechanic III (23023): Leads a team in the performance of aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled / unscheduled maintenance. Processes the technical experience to supervise subordinate mechanics and provide technical guidance on maintenance operations on the airframe being supported. Capable of performing, supervising and inspecting the duties of Mechanic Is, IIs and IIIs. A person in this position maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components and engines of complex to extreme difficulty, maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components, and applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation. This worker also applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures' manuals. Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems. A detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc. is required. Must possess the experience and ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers alike, must possess excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule. This worker will be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records, and is responsible for providing guidance and technical expertise to lower level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts.

Additional requirements: Aircraft Mechanics III responsibilities include all tasks included in series 23022 MECH II and may be considered as team lead and must possess a level of experience necessary to inspect all aspects of engine repair performed by the worker (Mechanic Level II) they will be inspecting. Aircraft Mechanic III personnel will be required to inspect and may be required to clear Red X items upon completion of all maintenance to include In-Progress-Inspection (IPI) and engine post maintenance final air worthiness inspections. If acting as CFT on-site Team Lead, must possess a level of experience necessary to oversee operations of other CFT members and oversee production to ensure the established timelines remain on schedule. Must have technical knowledge of T56-A-15 engines and 54H60 propeller repair with a minimum of four (4) years’ experience (equivalent to Air Force Skill Level 7 as an aircraft propulsion craftsman).

Skill and Knowledge:  Shall have the ability to troubleshoot malfunctions in various aircraft systems and be able to perform general Intermediate Level maintenance and possess one or more of the specialties of the assigned aircraft below:

Aircraft Propulsion and related Sub-systems


  • Must be knowledgeable of technical directives and shall be knowledgeable of and understand basic supply procedures.

  • Aircraft Mechanic III shall have experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy, and exhibit leadership and ensure adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.

  • Possess a high degree of expertise in the control and coordination of aircraft maintenance.

  • Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications.

  • Thorough working knowledge of aircraft maintenance records.

  • Working understanding of the aircraft and aircraft systems.

Task Requirements:


  • Performs all tasks required of Aircraft Mechanic II and III IAW Performance Work Statement

  • May perform duties as team lead

  • Inspects all aspects of engine repair performed by the worker (Aircraft Mechanic Level II)

  • Inspects and may be required to clear Red X items upon completion of all maintenance to include IPI and engine post maintenance final air worthiness inspections

  • Occasionally perform duties as on-site CFT Team Lead in absence of Site Lead

  • Perform housekeeping and FOD prevention

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Ten (10) or more years’ experience (equivalent to Air Force Skill Level 7 as an aircraft propulsion craftsman)

Basic Qualifications:


  • Must have technical knowledge of T56-A-15 engines and 54H60 propeller repair with a minimum of four (4) years’ experience (equivalent to Air Force Skill Level 7 as an aircraft propulsion craftsman)

  • All Contractors are required to have a Common Access Card (CAC) and shall be required to pass the equivalent of a trustworthy National Agency Check plus Written Inquiries with Credit Check (NACI), IAW DTM-08-003 “Next Generation Common Access Card (CAC) Implementation Guidance”, or latest guidance, prior to being allowed to work

  • Must be able to work 1st, 2nd or 3rd shift if required

  • Must be able to work Monday through Friday or alternate work schedule if required

Employment is contingent on a) your ability to provide appropriate proof of your identity and eligibility to work in the United States; (b) your references and any background check being satisfactory to the Company; (c) you successfully passing a pre-employment drug test; and d) your ability to get a required clearance by your effective start date, if needed; and (e) KAI commencing performance on this contract.
