The Gifted Teacher is an advocate for the gifted/talented program within the school and greater community. The position provides whatever resources/support may be needed including, but not limited to, planning, coordination, education and communication to all stakeholders - student, parents, educators, administrators, board members, etc. - with the goal of optimizing all available programmatic channels and resources available that may contribute to the success of gifted and talented students.

Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.

- Assists Assessment Coordinator in testing plans for abilities and proficiency placement testing; Coordinates identification efforts including assessment scoring, placement recommendations, and communication to parents regarding identification;

- Works collaboratively with homeroom teachers to develop Advanced Learning Plans (ALP); Provides enrichment experiences for gifted/talented students;

- Works with teachers in the classroom to provide specialized instruction and qualitatively-differentiated programs for the gifted/talented in their classroom; Provides resources for teachers who are working with gifted students;

- Serves as a resource person for parents, teachers, support staff, administrators and community; Promotes staff participation in related professional education conferences; Holds annual parent information meetings discussing the traits and needs of gifted students, identification process, and programming options;

- Meets quarterly with the site advisory committee and annually with the district gifted advisory council to identify and evaluate current and proposed activities/options to meet the needs of gifted students; Works collaboratively with the Dean of Instruction to annually evaluate the gifted/talented program and if requested, provide a report to administrators and the Board;

- Remains abreast of current research, learning and available resources in the field; Attends workshops and conferences as necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the job;

- Assists counselors in promotion of concurrent enrollment and scholarships for gifted students; Maintains records on each gifted/talented student; Acts as an advocate for the gifted/talented program.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree AND

- Three (3) years of teaching experience

- OR Equivalent Combination of Education and Experience

Certificates and Licenses: Valid, appropriate State Gifted and Talented Certification

Other Required Qualifications:

- Meet requirements for Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) in subject area

- Strong interpersonal skills emphasizing tact, patience and courtesy; ability to establish a professional, effective rapport with students

- Able to adapt learning plans to meet different needs and learning styles; create an instructional and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth

- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing

- Demonstrates the use of good judgment in decision-making

- Great organizational and time management skills

- Customer service orientation

- Understanding of applicable sections of the State Education Code and other pertinent regulations

- Willingness and ability to obtain additional licensing as required

- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time within and between assigned geographic areas to support students; attend regularly scheduled meetings and participate in school activities, open houses and orientations

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook as well as Internet research methods and report writing techniques; Utilizes computer software associated with curriculum

- Ability to pass required background check

Desired Qualifications:

- Master's degree in Education or related field

- Experience with charter school environment

- Experience working with gifted and talented students
