Job Description:

HR Directions seeks a prospect for its client RTI International for the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, Learning, and Adapting (MERLA) Internship within the Global Health Division in the International Development Group.

The Global Health Division within the International Development group at RTI implements projects and research studies in low- and middle-income countries in a variety of technical areas including malaria, neglected tropical diseases, health systems strengthening, and non-communicable diseases.

The MERLA Intern will support technical and business development work in global health within the International Development Group. The intern will work to support a variety of programs, technical activities, and new business opportunities across the Global Health Division (GHD). The intern will report to a GHD MERLA Specialist and provide needs-basis support to technical and business development staff across GHD. This position will be based at RTI's headquarters in Research Triangle Park, N.C., working remotely until the office reopens.

Responsibilites

Business Development

- Support proposal development efforts, including conducting desk reviews, landscape analyses, and research activities on technical areas, countries, and competitors as well as preparing job descriptions, indicator tables, project performance reviews (PPRs), and corporate capability statements

- Liaise with and coordinate support services from corporate business partners as appropriate

Technical

- Support evaluation and research activities across GHD including quantitative and qualitative data analysis

- Support development and review of learning plans as well as the implementation of learning activities such as Pause and Reflect sessions

- Support write-up, presentation and dissemination of project outputs, e.g. peer-reviewed manuscripts, project presentations, visuals/graphics, reports, and blogs

- Support knowledge management and communications efforts as needed across GHD

- Provide technical assistance for monitoring and evaluation plan development and revision, data analysis and visualization (graphics, etc.), and tool development

- Support additional GHD initiatives on a needs-basis

Additional Information

This paid virtual internship will take place from October 2020 through May 2021. The internship requires a minimum commitment of 15 hours per week. Hours are flexible during business hours, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

- Current master's level student pursuing a degree in a relevant social science field

- Experience analyzing qualitative and quantitative data

- Proficient administrative support and organizational skills and abilities with attention to detail

- Proven excellent oral and written communication skills

- Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines under pressure

- Excellent soft skills, including include strong interpersonal and communication skills, a problem-solving attitude, and being a self-starter who works both independently and as a collaborative team player

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with qualitative data analysis using software (i.e. Atlas.ti, Dedoose, NVivo)

- Experience with quantitative data analysis (i.e. SAS, STATA, SPSS, R, or other statistical software)

- Prior experience working, studying, or traveling in developing countries a plus, but not necessary

- Language skills in French
