Senior Global Sourcing Category Manager at Tempur Sealy

Job Summary: This position is responsible for value generation from cost savings implementation, development and execution of the global sourcing strategies for their assigned category. This role will provide leadership for the global commodity teams and is accountable for the overall global strategy. The Category Manager will be the direct interface to the supply base and be responsible for supplier management for all strategic and tactical issues.

The primary objective for this role is to be the marketplace expert for Tempur Sealy on all aspects of commodity costs, performance and technology shifts and supply base trends, and to manage and lead the global commodity teams with the ongoing knowledge development process for product innovations, cost drivers, and market trends.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, and Key Results Area:

Cost Challenge, KPIs, Inventory Management, Forecasting, Quality Improvements and New Product Launch models (80%):

- Responsible for a broad range of materials and components as assigned by the Director of Strategic Sourcing.

- Accountable for development and implementation of the Global Sourcing Strategy, including alignment to the overall company strategy and goals.

- Accountable for leading the multisite category managers and align the regional purchases with the Global Strategy

- Responsible for managing the supplier balanced scorecard, and conducting periodic reviews with supplier and TSI management

- Accountable for owning and enforcing the terms and conditions of the supplier contracts

- Sourcing strategies will include contract negotiations, lead times, inventory levels, freight policies, payment terms, supply management accuracy, technology, delivery, and disaster recovery planning.

- Implement, administer, and report the results of global programs covering assigned categories.

- Own the supplier relationship with major suppliers on assigned categories.

- Interface with senior level executives at suppliers and within TSI

- Ensure operational compliance to global purchasing programs, addressing any issues that may surface.

- Manage assigned category specifications by structure, raw materials, and finishing applications.

- Obtain or secure material technology for exclusive TSI use and competitive advantage.

- Develop total cost models and associated charts to analyze and understand base raw materials that comprise targeted components and raw materials within the spend assigned.

- Initiate alternative sourcing opportunities with new or current suppliers.

- Interact with Global Product Development, Marketing and Operations Management to develop and apply new materials and product improvements.

- Coordinate supplier certification process, approval and compliance for the assigned material supply base in conjunction with the Supplier Development Engineer.

- Negotiate contracts with assigned suppliers which achieve lowest system costs while maintaining the highest quality and service parameters.

- Create supply management strategies for assigned raw material categories, which improve plant inventory level days on hand, improve order accuracy and align lead time requirements.

Direct supply base to be e-compliant and negotiate contract amendments to include these requirements.

- Establish strategies to reduce or eliminate excess and obsolete components or materials and consolidate raw material spend.

- Solicit and implement thoughts and ideas of plant sourcing, operations and manufacturing to better manage and optimize supply chain efficiencies

- Work cross functionally with corporate Marketing, GPD and Operations to develop best practices and earlier involvement with the introduction of new raw materials and product lines.

- Participate in cross functional events to express the best interest of all supply chain functions.

- Manage any supplier liaison or contract employees as assigned.

- Provide critical feedback loops to Manufacturing and Planning on appropriate supplier capacities for each facility depending on the complexity of the new products.

Administration (20%)

- Prepare RFI's, RFQ's, RFP's, price analysis, maintains category chronological summary of supplier communications and required filing systems.

- Enter content information into electronic systems and updates/reviews data for accuracy.

- Employ TSI favorable terms and conditions in all agreements.

- Resolve supply or quality related problems for assigned spends (i.e.: pricing, expediting, scheduling of orders, investigating discrepancies and gathering required and coordinating communications to internal business partners.

- Manage material content management (part number, nomenclature, shipping footprint, unit of measure, lead time, etc....

- Maintain vendor master and category SKU's/part numbers for accuracy.

- Disseminate information (i.e. pricing, SKUs, availability and packaging) to the plants and management as required.
