Actuarial Analyst, Associate at Blue Shield of CA

Job Description:

In order to create an effective team, nearly every single individual on the team needs to be extraordinarily strong in their technical background with the ability to learn quickly. The analyst will be part of a team that is leading and developing new programs and new processes.
In addition to strong technical skills, this position will require the soft communication skills to be able to articulate complex concepts to individuals lacking in a technical background.
This position may provide support towards eventual attainment of the Associate or Fellow, Society of Actuaries (SOA) designation, if desired.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Ensure complete and accurate monitoring of supplemental data submission to regulatory entities.
* Maintain tracking reports for claims/encounter data quality.
* Practices basic modeling, querying and analysis.
* Applies basic mathematical and programming techniques in course of doing actuarial analyses under direct supervision of Manager
* Perform historical study on Medi-Cal risk adjustment.
* Work with cross-functional teams to meet objectives.
* Special projects as requested.

Education:
* Requires minimum of a bachelors' degree in a technical or quantitative field (GPA: 3.0+) or equivalent combination of experience and education.
* At least 1 year of healthcare experience, with at least 1 year in a data analysis role.
* Typically has completed Course 1 (Exam P).
Technical Skills:
* Strong programming experience including SQL or SAS knowledge.
* Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint).
Personal/Leadership Skills:
* Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and presentation).
* Strong interpersonal skills. Able to collaborate with other cross-functional areas to meet objectives.
* Independent problem-solver. Proactive. Able to multi-task.
* Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Experience:
* Medi-Cal or Medicare experience.
* Healthcare claims knowledge.

- Physical Requirements:
Office Environment - roles involving part to full time schedule in Office Environment. Based in our physical offices and work from home office/deskwork - Activity level: Sedentary, frequency most of work day.
