Sayres is seeking a seeking a Senior Project Engineer to support the United States Navy Program Office that is responsible for managing and developing the Navy's newest surface ships. This is a great opportunity to join the fantastic team at Sayres and Associates and be on the ground floor of building a new class of ship for the United States Navy / Military Sealift Command.

Roles and Responsibilities:

- Provide technical and management support for PMS 385 engineering efforts throughout the development, design, production, delivery, and testing phases of ship acquisition and construction.

- Subject matter expertise in one or more of the following three main naval engineering disciplines: Hull, Mechanical, or Electrical ship engineering.

- Additional experience in other naval engineering areas/systems desired: structural, propulsion, auxiliary machinery, naval architecture, deck equipment, aviation support, C4I, and control.

- Provide technical support reviewing design drawings, revision notices, ship specifications, and other contract data deliverables for vessel acquisition and construction contracts issued by PMS 385.

- Liaise between SDM, NAVSEA PM, shipbuilder, SUPSHIP, and applicable OEMs to resolve system technical clarifications.

- Provide engineering, analysis, and technical studies support.

- Develop technical reports/briefs/point papers on design engineering issues and corrective actions.

- Identify risks, and report issues to the NAVSEA 05D Ship Design Managers to include recommendations for mitigation and/or resolution.

- Provide support and assistance in researching, planning, budgeting, maintaining, conducting, and executing production support.

- Assist in the development of flag presentations, point papers, and talking points as required.

- Possibility of travel to locations outside the typical office setting for interaction with customers, vendors, shipyards, and stakeholders, including ship visits and onboard site checks.

The position requires:

- BS in an engineering related field AND a minimum 10 years' relevant experience OR a MS in an engineering related field and seven (7) years' experience.

- Familiarity with ABS, Steel Vessel Rules (SVR), and/or IEEE requirements and practices.

- Senior level understanding and experience with ship system designs.

- Proven ability to solve complex engineering design problems.

- Strong communication and customer relations skills.

- Strong MS Office skills.

- Active Secret security clearance verifiable in JPAS or the ability to obtain one

The ideal candidate for this position would have:

- Direct experience working in NAVSEA, construction shipyards, and/or operating/maintaining a vessel.
