Position Description

The Director of Business Development will report to the VP of Business Development for Oncology and Precision Diagnostics (OPDx) and will lead activities to identify and facilitate opportunities to create and grow partnerships with pharmaceutical, biotechnology and related industry manufacturing companies in the use of QIAGEN technologies, products and services for the development of new Companion and Complementary Diagnostics.
Additionally, the Director of Business Development will be responsible for establishing, aligning and facilitating pre-commercial agreements with pharma partners for projects in negotiation and development phases. During development phases, early commercialization and launch the Director of Business Development will also be responsible for maintaining commercial alliances with key internal stakeholders and pharma partner stakeholders.
Position Requirements

* Prospect and lead establishment of Companion Diagnostics partnerships to develop, globally register, and commercialize NGS and PCR based Companion Diagnostics solutions in parallel with pharmaceutical and biotechnology targeted therapy and personalized/precision medicine programs.
* Generate, secure and drive a continuous deal flow of attractive partnership opportunities that lead to high value agreements with an emphasis on agreements that cover development, pre-launch commercialization and launch activities
* Provide support to field and screen incoming partnership and licensing opportunities related to OPDx
* Primary lead to solicit and pitch QIAGEN capabilities, competencies and offerings to strategically important potential new partners
* Primary lead negotiation role to establish partnership contracts, conduct due diligence and drive deal process to execution of contracts and related OPDx business agreements
* Support, maintain and grow current and newly entered partnerships in an alliance management role to foster highly satisfied, customer focused OPDx development and/or commercial partnerships
* Lead the development of financial models to support the business case for new OPDx partnerships and projects
* Collect and analyze market and financial data to establish and present compelling business cases for OPDx partnerships
* Drive development of deal specific work plans by project management and create key financial terms and budgets for new OPDx partnership projects in collaboration with Product Development, Corporate Business Development and finance
* Devise market and product research to identify potential OPDx partnerships with pharmaceutical and related industry organizations such as CLIA lab partners and Diagnostic companies of a non-competitive business.
* Develop and maintain a roadmap of all potential companion diagnostic partnerships to maintain a healthy, growing and diversified OPDx partnership pipeline
* Understand and effectively engage a wide range of internal and external functional areas including Legal, IP, Finance, R&D, Regulatory Affairs, Operations, Sales & Marketing, in order to develop and maintain effective companion diagnostic partnerships services and solutions.
Personal Requirements

* Advanced degree (eg MSc) within a diagnostic or related scientific profession required
Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) is preferred
* Experience working in a business development, licensing or commercial business role for an In vitro Diagnostics (IVD) or Biopharma industry organization
* Demonstrated extensive and successful track record of establishing partnering or licensing contracts within diagnostic, medical device or pharmaceutical industry, preferably within the field of companion diagnostics
* Minimum of 10 years of experience and success within other biotech/pharmaceutical and/or diagnostic companies, with 5 or more years in biomarker research is required
* In-depth skills and expertise within the precision medicine space: co-development of companion diagnostics and targeted therapies
* Working knowledge of Companion Diagnostics development and applicable knowledge of Federal guidelines and regulations is required
* Experience working in global environment is preferred
* Demonstrated extensive and successful track record of establishing partnering or licensing contracts within diagnostic, medical device or pharmaceutical industry, preferably within the field of companion diagnostics
* Experience working in a corporate, global or regional marketing role involving diagnostic or medical device products/services, preferably with companion diagnostics
