Las Palmas Medical Center offers comprehensive services and special expertise in Emergency Room Medicine (Level III Trauma), Cardiology, Women's Services, Labor & Delivery, Neonatal Intensive Care, Neuroscience, Pediatric care, and Wound Care Management. Las Palmas Medical Center is also the only Kidney Transplant Center in the Region. Las Palmas Rehabilitation Hospital is a separate facility with newly renovated patient rooms, exercise equipment and cafeteria. POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the unit's Director or designee the Charge Nurse assumes responsibility for direction and coordination of all functions in the unit on his/her designated shifts. In collaboration with other members of the management team, this individual is responsible for the ongoing assessment of the quality of patient care services provided in unit. The RN staff nurse provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures of Las Palmas Medical Center. In collaboration with the patient, the patient's family and other members of the health care team, the clinical RN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, delegates and coordinates treatment plans and the plan of care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Assumes responsibility for direction and coordination of all functions during the designated shift.

* Functions as a resource person for staff members and assists in necessary education of individual members of the nursing staff.

* Assumes responsibility for the overall quality of nursing care provided when s/he is on duty.

* Makes decisions regarding activities within these areas based on Administrative Operational Standards, Nursing Administrative Standards, Human Resource Standards, and Standards of Care of the unit, in collaboration with other members of the management team.

* Demonstrates knowledge and application of the nursing process.

* Assesses and monitors and recognizes changes in the patient's behavioral and physiological status; takes appropriate action based on assessment.

* Utilizes professional skills and judgment in delivering and/or delegating care for patients.

* Assists with unit employee process activities, including orientation, professional development.

* Other duties as assigned within scope and practice of licensure.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS

* Texas or Compact State Nursing License

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

* Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in PICU.

* Leadership and management experience preferred.

* BCLS Certification

* PALS Certification within 6 months of hire

PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

* ACLS Certification
