Newsy is looking for a talented Motion/Viz Designer to contribute to the anti-partisan, solutions-focused journalism we deliver on cable and our award-winning streaming TV apps for a smart, curious audience. Our next team member will have a strong design sense and a deep understanding of the Viz Artist graphics system to help bolster the visual journalism of our live newscasts.

Primary Purpose:

Design and build smart, dynamic, engaging motion graphics in collaboration with newsy editorial teams, for implementation across our various storytelling platforms.

Key Activities:

• Conceptualize and create impactful graphics to visualize complex data and concepts


• Develop and implement powerful graphic templates for use in post-production (Adobe platform) across our regional newsrooms, and live production (Vizrt platform) from our automated control rooms


• Maintain graphics system, collaborating with engineering to ensure system is technically robust, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and fixing system bugs when necessary


• Use scripting within Vizrt to create innovative display solutions, including touchscreens, VR, and AR


• Assist with creating and sourcing models, scenes, images, etc., for the graphics library


• Communicate clearly with internal team and relevant stakeholders on timing, workload and deliverables


• Manage priorities and meet established deadlines


• Perform additional duties as needed and directed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education/Experience-

• Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred


• 2-5 years professional experience in motion graphics design, most or all in newsroom environments

Skills & Abilities-

• Strong design eye with ability to adhere to internal style standards and design language


• Expertise with Viz Artist, with experience templating within the Vizrt suite of software (Template Wizard, Content Pilot)


• Experience with realtime 3D render engines in a data-driven environment (elections, weather, etc.)


• Coding experience with VBScript and Viz Script; knowledge of other scripting languages is highly beneficial


• Expertise with Adobe After Effects and Premiere; experience with building Premiere MOGRT graphic templates is highly beneficial


• Understanding of television control room workflow and operations, broadcast standards


• High standard of editorial judgment and awareness
