Quality Control Manager at Graphic Packaging

Job Description:

MISSION / SUMMARY:

The Quality Manager role is responsible for oversight of quality related activities, ensuring alignment with GPI quality policies and objectives. He/she plans, coordinates, and communicates plant-level quality activities including facility conformance to quality standards; conformance to customer requirements; and, conformance to multiple third-party certifications. He/she serves as the facility's key quality contact to national accounts and leads contact with third-party auditing firms. He/she is responsible for Food Safety, Food Defense, and systems to meet all sanitation requirements, as well as responsible for all sanitation audits.

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

* Establish and prioritize quality policy objectives for the plant through understanding of current quality system, operational capabilities, evolving customer expectations, and audit agency requirements.

* Ensure plant quality system is in place and functioning; Proactively identify and close QA system gaps through the modification or creation of policies and procedures.

* Responsible for scheduling, tracking and documenting all plant trials

* Communicate quality concerns and coordinate the resolution of high profile quality issues by partnering with plant operations.

* Provide QA system related problem solving, process improvement and analytical support to plant operations, on an as needed basis.

* Build and maintain strong customer relationships, effectively and expeditiously responding to needs and concerns.

* Coordinate the qualification of materials, processes, and products, on an as needed basis.

* Develop annual budget and execute budget to meet plant business goals.

* Ensure Work System Plus Steering meeting in defined cadence, and team remains on track with priority projects. Remove roadblocks and identify any course corrections for key projects.

* Provide leadership to the plant in the preparation and execution of all internal and external Quality Systems audits (including ASI, Steritech, YUM, GFSI, HAVI, Chain of Custody (COC) and any other audits mandated by our customers), supporting successful completion of audits and tracking corrective actions from post-audit reports.

* Ensure Food Safety, Food Defense, and systems are established to meet all sanitation audit requirements; ensure readiness of the plant at all times for audit; and track corrective actions from post-audit reports.

* Ensure quality management team and quality personnel have received and understand the training provide to do their work.

* Ensure overall safety performance and leadership, enforcing all quality and plant safety policies and procedures.

* Other duties as assigned.

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

* 5-7 years of supervisory experience working in Operations, preferably in a production and/or quality function.

* Experience with Food Safety Standards, HACCP and audit processes.

* Experience with ISO9000 concepts, preferred.

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

* Bachelor's degree (Industrial Engineering, Production Management, Quality Systems, Business Administration, or related field strongly preferred; or, closely related work experience required in lieu of degree.

SKILLS:

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with various manufacturing and staff departments at the plant, and with groups outside the plant, (other plants' personnel, division Quality, vendors)

* Demonstrated ability to lead a team, including train, coach, mentor, counsel, and discipline.

* Strong strategic, analytical problem-solving ability (TCC/Trouble Cause Correction)

* Demonstrated knowledge of process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, 5S or other discipline) Must be able to utilize time management & multi-tasking skills to keep up with the demands of coordinating all the Quality Systems and Audit activities.

* Strong computer skills with a focus on Microsoft office applications, QAD experience (preferred)

* Ability to work independently as well as the ability to coordinate activities with different departments

* Strong safety orientation as per job requirements

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

* Sitting, walking or standing for extended periods of time up to 12-hours.

* Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.

* Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.

* Use of various office equipment, hand and electrical tools or equipment.

* Use of Personal Protective Equipment in designated areas (Safety Shoes, Hearing Protection, Hair & Beard Netting).

* Working in various temperatures & humidity levels depending on building & department (not all areas are temperature controlled throughout facilities).

* Ability to work overtime (greater than 40 hours per week)

* Ability to work any shift, including 12+ hours, evenings, and weekends
