The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking applicants for a TREAT Instrument & Controls Engineer position. TREAT is a facility that performs transient testing of nuclear fuels and materials. TREAT is capable of controlled prompt critical operations, reaching power levels of 16,000 MW.

INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for DOE-NE, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstration capability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment. MFC hosts a unique combination of personnel, facilities and infrastructure and offers the ability to perform research and development of nuclear fuels from fuel design, development, and fabrication through post irradiation analysis.

This role performs work in the TREAT Instrument & Controls (I&C) Engineering Group and provides technical support as an I&C Engineer. The TREAT Engineering aspects of the job include revising I&C procedures, supporting technicians performing these procedures or troubleshooting problems, supporting Operations, Maintenance, Training, Reactor Engineering, etc. Also includes performing engineering evaluations for replacement obsolete components up to the design of replacement systems or sub-systems, as needed.

Responsibilities

* Develop and maintain the system technical baseline as well as performing monitoring of Safety Related (SR), Non-Safety Related - Augmented Requirements (NSR-AR) and other systems.

* Develop competency and independence in completing assignments by managing multiple tasks or projects and expanding skills in areas outside original area of expertise.

* Contacting others frequently throughout the company and representing the organization in providing solutions to problems associated with specific projects.

* Providing and/or giving limited direction to junior staff including orientation and training.

* Influencing achievement of significant program objectives.

* Working independently with occasional oversight and gaining independence with work reviewed for soundness of judgment and overall adequacy and accuracy.

* Undergraduate degree in applicable engineering discipline with 5 years relative experience, or Master s Degree with 3 years relative experience, or PhD with 2 years relative experience.

* Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L Clearance.

* Must be a US Citizen
