This position is responsible to assess the health status of patients, students, and persons supported within the Specialty Hospital, Specialty School or Residential locations at Children's Services in accordance with the organization's Mission and Core Values, utilizing Person-Centered Practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
Registered Nurse:
Assess the health status of patients, students and persons supported
Analyzes clinical information
Assesses/plans/Implements/evaluates condition
Interprets lab values and data
Administers medications/Enteral feedings
Provides Respiratory care/support
Serves as the primary nurse within a specific unit
Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing interventions
Provides leadership and oversight to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN's) and support staff
May delegate to licensed and unlicensed personnel within thin their defined scopes of practice
Assists in the admission and discharge of patients/students and persons supported
Educates/teaches staff, families, patients, students, and persons supported
Promotes health and safety
Orientates new nursing staff
Administers medication (oral and enteral)
Administers respiratory treatments
Provides tracheostomy care
Provides suctioning (oral and trach)
Administers and monitors oxygen
Manages daily medical needs for persons supported
Licensed Practical Nurse:
Assist the Registered Nurse
Administers medications/Enteral feedings
Provides Respiratory care/support
Documents per shift in the Electronic Medical Record and/or paper chart
Attends required meetings
Assists support staff
Maintains professional relationships with physicians and the interdisciplinary team
Assists in the admission and discharge of patients/students and persons supported
Educates/teaches staff, families, patients, students, and persons supported
Promotes health and safety
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Technological competence to use computers and software utilized by the organization

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in assigned areas; may be required to float to other areas as needed. Eight - 12 hours shifts including day, evening, overnight, weekend and holidays will be required. May be required to participate in the call system. This position can be exposed to physical and mental demands including back and muscle strain, constant kneeling, squatting, twisting, bending, and reaching. This position may require the use of personal protective equipment such as gloves, masks, jackets, robes, gowns, bite guards, etc.
The following physical requirements are necessary for this job:
Full range of body motion, including the ability to stand / walk / move for extended periods of time
Stoop, kneel and reach for short to extended periods of time
Push/pull up to 50 lbs.
Eye/hand coordination
Lift up to 50 lbs., using proper body mechanics
Pinch up to 15 lbs.
Grip up to 60 lbs.
Repetitive movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
Ability to receive and express detailed information through oral communication, visual acuity, and the ability to read and understand directions

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Graduate of an accredited RN or LPN program. Valid South Dakota RN/LPN Licensure. Prior nursing experience or direct care preferred.
