A Rotational Electrician installs new equipment, troubleshoots and repairs existing electrical equipment and systems.
Essential Job Functions
Install, assemble, dismantle, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair all types of electrical equipment such as motors and generators, control circuits, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, distribution systems, lighting circuits, A/C & D/C drives, and display systems of shipboard equipment and DC propulsions motors and control circuits.
Conducts insulation resistance measurements of electrical cables and motors to determine condition and effects repairs or replacements as required.
Utilize precision electrical measurement tools, i.e. multimeters, ammeters, insulation testers, etc.
Perform all electrical repairs and maintenance aboard dredges and other marine vessels
Perform other duties as assigned
Install, assemble, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair various electronic and electrical equipment; including but not limited to PLC's, fire alarms, engine alarms, Gyro, transducers, flow meters, density meters, video equipment, guidance draft and inclinometer, and bilge alarms.
Troubleshoot and calibrate instrumentation transmitters, sensors, and switches.
Follows all company and work site safety policies/procedures and commits to an “Incident and Injury Free” work environment
Requirements
5+ years of electrical experience
5+ years of marine electrical experience minimum
This position requires fluent use of the verbal and written English language
Must have a high school diploma or GED
Must have reliable transportation to and from the job site
Travel (by land, air, and water) to field locations is required, transportation paid.
Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, confined spaces, and high noise levels
Trade Certification or equivalent helpful, but not necessary
Ability to learn all types of electrical systems
Ability to work 84 hour work week
Must be able to work 7 days/week as needed
Ability to live aboard vessel for full rotation
Ability to understand, draw, and troubleshoot complex motor control circuit
Experience reading electrical drawings and troubleshooting control circuits
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and electrical drawings
Strong technical understanding of A/C and D/C generators and motors and motor controls
Experience in troubleshooting all types of electrical systems, including generators from 3kw to 3000kw: low voltage, medium voltage, and DC voltage
Understanding of programmable logic controllers (PLC)
Experience troubleshooting A/C and D/C drives
Proficient knowledge of proper installation procedures of electrical and electronic equipment
Ability to troubleshoot electric and electronic equipment
Proficient knowledge of equipment related to the dredging industry
Ability to communicate with contractors, vendors, and other trades
Ability to work independently and with others – team player
Good communication skills with co-workers and supervisors
Strong problem-solving abilities
Provide technical support (via telephone) to equipment personnel in need of assistance to solve electrical issues aboard dredges and other vessels
Understanding of NFPA and USCG regulations related to field
Required Certifications or Licenses
Must possess a valid Driver's license, must have a good driving record
Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat and lift for long periods of time.
Ability to work at heights, climb ladders and stairways and work from platforms.
Must be capable of working outside in the elements including but not limited to the heat, cold, rain, snow and wind; and must be able to work for long period of times up to 12 hours a day.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs unassisted
