Agile Program Manager at F5 Networks

The mission of the Agile Program Manager is to coordinate between all other functions in the team and to drive the devops process as well as manage related projects. You are their advocate, and constantly working to make sure the service teams can be successful! You keep your eye on the big picture and help team members to as well. We act as the scrum master for a devops/service team. We collaborate with software and quality engineers, architects, Product Managers, and VPs from other teams. This role supervises the devops process by ensuring the projects undertaken are well-defined, projects are aligned with the strategic plans and the roadmap, stories are well-defined, the backlog is groomed and prioritized, sprints are planned based on the backlog, sprints are started/completed on time, daily standups are held, and that any issues raised are promptly resolved.

This position is located in Seattle. Teams are geographically distributed so some travel may be required.

Primary Responsibilities


  • Design, build and maintain program road maps including scope, schedule, and risk management.

  • Manage the gathering of product requirements and project scope in a holistic manner across multiple teams or business functions.

  • Work with Service Team Owners to translate customer problems into high-level requirements, epics and stories, prioritized so that teams have what they need to deliver the right increment that are of highestvalue to the customer.

  • Enable service teams to be effective by ensuring they have a clear understanding of the strategic initiatives, a refined backlog that gives them enough detail and clarity to start delivering customer value and that dependencies and communications between teams provide good clarity and alignment.

  • Communicate status, barriers and risks to the stakeholders.

  • Anticipate challenges, identify risks and recommend mitigations and solutions. Own and drive those solutions.

  • Identify resources constraints or needs – when additional resources (HW, technical or human) are needed remove impediments and distractions from the team.

  • Organize and drive sprint ceremonies, working with Leadership, Service Team Owners, outside customers and other functions to enable planning events, QBRs, backlog and roadmap reviews and team retrospectives and demos. Help the team focus on goals, self-organize to achieve objectives, and ensure they fully understand the objectives and commitments.

  • Conduct team level agility maturity assessments, using that information as a guide to prioritize agile training for the team.

  • Guide and coach the teams on Scrum and Agile practices consistent with team standards and helpg them achieve their commitments and objectives day to day, sprint-to-sprint.

  • Lead continuous improvement efforts with teams by implementing take-aways from retrospectives and implementing concrete solutions to make the teams more efficient and improve delivery success.

  • Coach teams to improve in sprint velocity.

  • Continuously advocate for team health, efficiency and effectiveness by working to unblock team members and other teams, manage and communicate risks and helping the teams self-organize to be more effective.

  • Take on projects and work cross-organizationally as needed to facilitate communication, alignment and efficient quality delivery with partner teams across F5.

  • Work with product owners and others to ensure they are well engaged with the team, and part of the regular feedback loop.

  • Communicate the delivery expectations for customer value and dependencies to multiple audiences, including leadership.

  • Collect, track and manage tasks, scope, schedule and related to the project.

  • Organize and conduct meetings, document decisions and actions, track actions to completion.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Demonstrated strong communication and collaboration skills with an ability to communicate effectively across written, verbal and presentation formats to a variety of audiences from engineer to Executives

  • Experience working with remote teams and team members desired

  • Demonstrated effective use of collaboration tools to facilitate effective communication and distributed collaboration required

  • Ability to take initiative and apply critical thinking techniques to analyze problems, develop solutions or manage risk

  • Experience with at least one Agile methodology such as Scrum, Lean, XP required along with demonstrated application of agile mindset and principles

  • Demonstrates servant leadership and instinct for team empowerment and self-organization bringing energy and team building skills

  • Knowledge and experience of using modern agile management tools such as JIRA and Confluence helpful

  • Experience with CI/CD deployment of cloud solutions a strong plus

  • Demonstrated experience delivering sophisticated software projects and solutions effectively through Agile methodologies on a regular release cadence desired.

  • Experience with Agile projects and processes with more than 5 teams a strong plus

  • Experience working and collaborating cross-functionality and cross-organizationally to align dependencies and deliverables.

  • Ability to lead through influence to drive forward both the team and program.

  • Ability to organize and facilitate team meetings and initiatives to effectively develop plans and achieve goals.

Qualifications


  • BSEE, BSCS or other Engineering Technology collegiate degree;

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience

  • 2+ years facilitating and delivering projects at technology-based companies or technical domains as a program manager, project manager or scrum master required

  • 2+ years of Scrum & Agile experience desired

  • Desired Agile Scrum Master certification;

  • Desired Leading or implementing SAFe certification with accompanying experience managing projects to a successful conclusion

  • Travel up to 15%
