Job Description:

The position of Engineering Technician is within our IDDM business unit located at Abbott Scarborough in Scarborough, ME reporting into Abbott San Diego in San Diego, California. This role is expected to be a hands-on instrument engineering technician who can handle electro-mechanical system debugging, soldering, assembling and testing duties. This individual will also be able to support prototype efforts and protocol execution under the direction of technical personnel such as engineers within the instrument hardware development team.

This job description will be reviewed periodically and is subject to change by management.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Provide electrical and/or mechanical support in assembling sensors, mechanisms PCBs and other sub-systems within instrument hardware platforms.

* Support data collection and analysis as directed by engineers and scientists.

* Analyze, repair and build instrument, provide technical assistance to process development and engineering personnel.

* Complete lab reports including problem statements, methods and materials used, data analysis, conclusions and recommend for follow up work.

* Interface with other departments to resolve problems while complying with engineering documentation standards, engineering plans, and system specifications and test procedures.

May be required to work with hazardous materials. * Demonstrates commitment to the development, implementation and effectiveness of Alere Quality Management System per ISO, FDA, and other regulatory agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS | EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

*

Associate degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent with coursework in product design and manufacturing or industrial engineering.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Experience in electronics test and measurement (including soldering and PCB evaluation), performance testing of products in model/prototype and production phases, supporting manufacturing and transferring products to manufacturing.

* Test and troubleshoot instruments.

* Strong deductive reasoning and problem-solving skills:

* Ability to identify issues and make corrective measures to fix problems with electrical components.

* Ability and experience working with wires/boards, using hand tools and handling small components requiring manual dexterity.

* Requires strong written and verbal communication skills.
