Ultra Electronics Maritime EMS has an exciting opportunity for a HR Business Partner to join the HR Team at our Yaphank location. Reporting into the Signature Management and Power President with Strategic guidance from the SMaP HRVP, this is a true generalist role with responsibility for activities across all HR disciplines including recruitment, employee engagement, development, and employee relations. Ultra is currently going through an exciting period of transformation, implementing a HR Strategy with a broad agenda and as such is looking for a candidate who can embrace, support, and help embed change of the new initiatives, systems, and procedures.
The successful candidate will work closely with the operating business unit as well as the wider Ultra HR function. The HR Team supports approximately 200 employees over 2 locations within the US and is part of the wider Global SMaP HR team. Travel may on occasion be required to other Ultra sites.
We are looking for an experienced HR Business Partner to be a site lead for this location, with responsibility for leading operational HR on site and supporting translating of the Group HR Strategy for delivery locally with guidance from the HR VP. The role will handle a variety of HR related queries on a daily basis, whilst being able to multitask and prioritize effectively. A natural and engaging communicator, comfortable building strong partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders, the candidate will need to be confident working with people at all levels and be able to adapt their style when required. The HR Business Partner will lead, coach and mentor the HR Advisor and HR Admin assistant with SMaP in the US.
The successful candidate should be qualified with relevant experience, comfortable with taking on responsibility. They should have a sound knowledge of employment law and be able to apply this appropriately. The HR Business Partner will:

* Provide support to the HR VP, local HR team as well as wider Group HR team, ensuring they are kept up to date with all matters of importance.

* Develops local HR solutions and a workforce plan that aligns to the business strategy and objectives which feeds into wider SMaP workforce plan.

* Develop local robust talent management plans to attract, retain, develop, and engage talent in critical roles.

* Coaches senior leaders on complex leadership and HR issues including development and talent performance and issues.

* Builds organizational capability through development and/or facilitation of appropriate leadership team (i.e., team effectiveness, goal development and alignment, manager capability, etc.)

* Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements; conducting investigations; maintaining records; representing the organization at hearings.

* Maintains management guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human resource policies and procedures locally which support overall SMaP strategic direction.

* Participate in developing and executing departments annual goals and objectives.

* Support Group HR project work in support of Ultra transformation and the Group HR Strategy as required, such as implementation of the new HRIS system.

* Coach Managers to enable them to make informed decisions with regards to all employee matters.

* Provide high-quality advice and service to employee and management on a daily basis on all aspects of the employee lifecycle; support employee relations, performance management, absence management, counseling, investigations, management coaching and exit interviews.

* Update existing, as well as producing new HR policies, procedures and template documentation ensuring quality, continual compliance with legislation and effective communication as appropriate of any changes to users, as required.

* Lead locally on new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.

* Lead and coordinate benefits related inquiries

* Support production of management information and statistics as required.

* Coordinate reporting to GBS in annual reporting requirements such as affirmative action plan and annual reports.

* Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

* Demonstrate and adhere to the Ultra ASPIRE values at all times.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

* Bachelor s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field

* 5 + years of experience in Human Resources

* 2+ year of experience in Benefits; including open enrollment

* 3+ year of HRIS experience (ADP and WorkDay a plus)

* Ability to obtain a US Government security clearance. Security clearances are granted to U.S. citizens.

DESIRED SKILLS:

* Previous experience of working as a HR Business Partner

* Thorough knowledge and understanding of U.S. labor and employment laws and compliance with federal and state employment laws and regulations

* Thorough working knowledge of current practices in the administration of HR policies, including: HRIS, training and development, benefits, compensation administration, performance review processes, performance management, succession planning, proactive employee relations, issue investigation and resolution, and talent acquisition

* Sound judgement and problem-solving skills

* Customer focused attitude with high level of professionalism and discretion, maintaining confidentiality.

* Excellent communicator with all levels of staff and management, both verbally and in writing.

* Willing to be an effective organizer, able to initiate, provide solutions, prioritize and organize workload without regular supervision.

* Willingness to work to deadlines.

* Willing to deal with people sympathetically.

* Excellent skills in the use of various software programs, including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, HRIS, ATS, LMS

* Thorough understanding and knowledge of human resources theories and practices and specialized knowledge of human resource-related laws, regulations, and procedures

* PHR or SPHR/ SHRM-CP or SCP preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Travel (air/auto) (20%); mainly U.S, but may be occasional international
