Job Summary

The Division of Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine- and The Center for Lung Research at CHOP are dedicated to understanding the mechanisms underlying lung diseases and developing new strategies to prevent and treat these disorders. Studies in the McGrath-Morrow Laboratory encompass a spectrum of basic and patient-oriented research in neonatal lung injury, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, ataxia-telangiectasia and predisposing factors leading to adult lung disease. Genetic mouse models and in vitro systems are utilized to understand the cell biology and mechanisms of pathogenesis. Her laboratory is focused on alveolar and vascular responses of the neonatal lung to hyperoxia and signaling disruption, the relationship between neonatal lung injury and abnormal lung function in the adult, immune responses of the neonatal lung to acute lung injury and identifying pathways to optimize lung recovery. The Research Associate I will work closely with Dr. McGrath-Morrow in developing and implementing the scientic directions of the laboratory and assisting other staff and trainees. Experiments will utilize murine models, human samples, and in vitro cell culture systems for molecular studies.

This position requires specialized education in the biological sciences, with prociency in relevant techniques for in vivo and/or in vitro molecular studies, skills in planning and interpretation of experiments, and in analysis and presentation of data. Other duties include training and oversight of students working in the laboratory and collaboration with other internal and external scientic collaborators.

Job Responsibilities

- Assists faculty in the conduct of research of significant value in the basic and/or translational science area

- Plans, conducts research projects within the federal and institutional regulations and policies

- Collaborates with researchers, external agencies and institutions to develop cooperative research initiatives

- Trains technical staff, students in lab procedures

- Reviews manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals

- Assists with the submission of grant applications/contracts and funding of research projects

- Participates in free discussion, research progress, and overall morale

- Responsible for appropriate use of research funds

- May supervise students

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

None

Required Education and Experience

- Terminal degree (MD, PhD, DVM), 1or more years Post-Doctoral fellowship experience

- Master's degree, 3-5 years of scientifically relevant experience required

- Bachelor's degree, 7+ years of scientifically relevant experience required
