Job Description:

Summary: The Production Lead is responsible of delegating and leading the completion of all preventative maintenance, animal welfare tasks, special projects and daily maintenance needs.

Key Responsibilities:
-Demonstrate a complete understanding of laying hen husbandry including; egg production, nutrition, molting, necropsy and blood work
-Ability to comprehend and operate the automated environmental and egg flow computers
-Continuously monitor bird health and production of laying hens in houses
-Assist Production Supervisor in training of new employees and annual training for all department stakeholders
-Lead and perform tasks associated with moving birds in and out of houses to include handling bird moving equipment and cleaning with pneumatic or pressurized water
-Supervise bird service activities, i.e. birds in/out with an emphasis on animal welfare
-Consistently train and enforce company AW policies and procedures
-Oversee and assist the completion and documentation of all preventative maintenance, special projects and daily maintenance needs in a timely fashion
-Supervise preventative maintenance programs for all production equipment and facilities
-Direct and perform manure removal/drying system functions
-Oversee and perform general maintenance tasks to include; plumbing, electrical wiring, troubleshooting, installation of new equipment and parts, buildings, equipment, systems feeding equipment, ventilation and weekly testing of stand-by generators
-Inspect conveyors, motors, or belts, check fluid levels, etc. or complete other preventative actions
-Maintain and monitor ventilation systems to ensure proper ventilation in the chicken houses
-Assist with testing and monitoring of alarm systems and all required components
-Provide stakeholders documented safety training to prevent, detect and correct unsafe conditions or violations of procedures and safety rules
-Ensure safe working conditions by inspecting and monitoring work areas, tools, and equipment
-Follow all company safety policies and practices
-Supervise production stakeholders and follow up on employees evaluations, expectations and results
-Complete 30 day, 90 day, and annual reviews on time
-Continuously train and enforce stakeholders on procedures, animal welfare policies and career development
-Respond to alarm/emergency calls when they occur
-Create and implement, with management approval, new ideas and methods to improve production efficiencies
-Answer stakeholders questions, help with stakeholders problems and oversee stakeholders work for quality and guideline compliance
-Assist management with leading a small group on projects or special duties as assigned
-Oversee required pest control functions
-Operate skid loader and other equipment on an as needed basis
-Obtain licensing for job specific duties
-Follow all company policies and procedures
-Follow all Daybreak procedures for sampling and submitting specimens
-Participate in physical inventory counts
-Commit and adhere to Daybreak Foods, Inc. industry leading Animal Welfare and Safe -Quality Food standards and practices
-Assure chickens have proper supply of feed, light, air and water daily
-Perform and/or assist with all duties of the Production Supervisor
-Request needed safety supplies, material, parts, etc. to designated department procurement stakeholder
-Prepare for DNR or customer audits at all times with proper procedures and documents for all activities
-Ensure the security of chickens and the premises by keeping all facility doors locked to protect birds from predators, external climate and unauthorized personnel
-Document completed tasks on a daily and weekly basis
-Observe bird health
-Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Education and Experience
-High School diploma, GED, or equivalency preferred
-2 years of experience in a lead role preferred
-2 years of experience in production agricultural environment is preferred
-2 years of experience in Windows based systems and programs required (including MS Office)
-2 years of experience caring for animals
-Understanding of computer controlled electrical and mechanical devices is preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Must be self-directed

-Understand and operate environmental controls, alarm systems, backup power and other technology
-Track and document all activities with correct forms and paperwork
-Skilled in trouble shooting failed equipment
-Motivate, develop and direct people as they work
-Ability to fairly and consistently assess performance of employees and take corrective action as appropriate
-Ability to manage time and the time of others
-Ability to communicate so that others will understand both verbally and in writing
-Working knowledge of agricultural operations preferred
-Capability to learn and perform lock-out-tag-out and other safety procedures
-Collaborate cross-functionally to achieve objectives
-Detail oriented
-Interact with individuals from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds
-Record of good attendance with a flexible schedule
-Basic reading, writing and math skills
-Positive attitude and ability to work with a team
-Must enjoy working in close contact with animals

Physical Requirements:
-Ability to be on feet for long periods of time daily
-Ability to bend over, stand up, twist body to the left or right at a fast repetitious pace for long periods of time daily
-Stand, walk; use hands to handle tools, objects or controls; push or pull; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions:
Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Proper personal protective equipment will be required during certain working conditions. May require work in excess of 40 hours per week or 10 hours a day.
