Job Description:

Summary: Under the direction of mill leadership, the Feed Mill Technician I will be responsible for manufacturing quality feed in a safe manner that will optimize efficiency, routine maintenance repairs, assisting with repair projects and general housekeeping. This is a temporary position (14 months).

Key Responsibilities:
SQF:
-Perform all functions of the position with strict adherence to all SQF, cGMPs, and regulatory protocols
-Ensure that products and materials are handled and stored in such a way as to prevent damage or product contamination
-Maintain compliance with the personnel and process hygiene requirements
-Inform Regional Mill Manager or Regional Operations Manager if any repairs or maintenance pose a potential threat to feed safety

Batching:
-Review and confirm daily feed orders to optimize efficiency
-Accurately manufacture complete poultry feed using computerized batching system
-Receive ingredients and keep accurate records of each load and lot number
-Track ingredients used in each feed order by recording lot and load numbers
-Take samples of feed and all ingredients
-Must comply with company and regulatory feed safety requirements

Maintenance Operations:
-Assist Mill Leadership in maintaining a safe, clean milling environment, following and training others with all safety systems and procedures. Examples: LOTO, confined space entry, SDS, fall protection and PPE
-Perform preventative maintenance tasks for the equipment in the feed mill and related delivery equipment as assigned
-Maintain proper housekeeping and cleanliness of all areas of the mill
-Assist with improvement projects of mill equipment and building

Purchasing and Inventory:
-Assist Mill Leadership in tracking ingredient inventories
-Assist Mill Leadership entering data into corn position report and settlement sheets as required by the State of Iowa
-Report needed safety supplies to Mill Leadership
-Report needed material, parts, equipment or tools to Mill Leadership

Animal Welfare:
-Ensures animal health and welfare by performing daily inspections of Mill operations
-Assures flocks have proper supply of feed

Marginal Functions:
-Assist other departments as needed
-Perform duties of safety committee member when required

Qualifications:
Education & Experience
-High School Diploma required
-Post high school education in related field preferred
-2 years verifiable experience in a Milling environment preferred
-Electrical experience preferred
-Welding experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-The ability to communicate information and ideas verbally and in writing so others will understand
-Demonstrated skill to manage ones own time
-Ability to work unsupervised for extended periods of time
-Demonstrated skill to monitor and assess the performance of yourself and the organization to make improvements or take corrective action
-Must be willing to offer opinions and suggestions
-Must be willing to take on responsibilities and challenges
-Must be dependable and reliable
-Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
-Must be able to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution to solve a problem
-Intermediate computer skills in MS Word, Outlook, and Excel beneficial
-Skilled in trouble shooting failed equipment
-Ability to trouble shoot electrical motors, motor controls, and material handling equipment preferred
-Skilled in safe operation of tractors and skid loaders
-Plan for new projects

Physical Requirements:
-Ability to lift, carry and walk up steps carrying up to 60 pounds
-Ability to lift 100 pounds to waist height
-Must have the ability to climb ladders and work in high places up to 130 ft.
-Must be able to spend entire day on feet walking, standing, or climbing
-Must be able to work indoors and outdoors
-Must not have allergies to feedstuffs
-Work with protective equipment (Masks for dust and harness for climbing)
-Ability to work in a confined space

Working Conditions
-Environment may be dusty at times and work may be conducted inside and out
-Must dress for seasonal weather conditions, etc.
-Work schedule will include holidays and on occasions weekends with all feed manufacturing requirements met on a daily basis without fail
