Your Opportunity
The role of the Environmental Geologist is to conduct site assessment, remedial investigation, and remedial action support for complex environmental remediation projects at sites located primarily in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware with multi-media contamination that may include solvents, fuels, metals, and PCBs. You will also write proposals, reports, develop plans, and implement steps to move projects toward to closure in the most cost-effective manner.
Your Key Responsibilities
Develops work scope, schedule, and budget definition for proposals
Plans and manages the execution of work, including management of project staff and subcontractor procurement
Interacts with internal team and clients to determine remedial investigation/action programs to address clients' needs
Interacts with regulatory agencies to negotiate courses of action and advocate on behalf of clients
Reviews subcontractor submittals including work plans, health and safety plans, and quality control plans
Manages multi-media sampling efforts, including soil, groundwater, vapor, indoor air, and other regulated materials
Manages oversight and coordination efforts in response to spills, alarms, or other client requests
Manages oversight of remediation system operation and maintenance including design, installation, and pilot testing
Manages oversight of subcontractors, including utility locators, drillers (direct push, sonic, hollow stem auger, MiHPT-LIF and UVOST), remediation contractors, surveyors, and emergency response contractors
Evaluates compliance of subcontractor work against technical specifications and scopes of work
Demonstrates competency in a combination of areas including field supervision, technical knowledge, task management, project management, and environmental regulations.
Conducts complex scientific assessment and analysis
Assignments/projects are advanced in nature and require the application of mature knowledge including but not limited to use of data analysis tools and software such as AQTESOLV (aquifer testing), gINT (geotechnical), ProUCL (statistical), Quick Domenico (groundwater F&T), and PENTOXSD (water quality)
Knowledge of advanced modeling software use such as CORMIX (surface water modeling), MODFLOW (groundwater), MT3DS (contaminant transport), and API LDRM (LNAPL)
Prepares remedial investigation reports, remedial/corrective action plans, remedial designs, due diligence reports, and related documents that include work summaries, data summaries, engineering calculations, summary tables, figures, engineering drawings and specifications, ecological risk assessments, and vapor intrusion evaluations
Manages cost and schedule control
Exemplify Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work
Responsible for planning and conducting assignments/projects having broad scope for independent accomplishment and coordination of difficult tasks
Provide supervision, training, technical direction, and mentoring to junior staff
Executes specific technical tasks or requirements for medium to large projects
Conduct peer reviews of routine and moderately complex work by colleagues or junior personnel
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Knowledge of Federal, State (primarily New Jersey; PA Act 2 and Delaware HSCA), and Local environmental regulations/guidance including application of remediation standards and technologies
Knowledge of refinery and rail yard operations
Promote policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training
Advanced skills in technical writing
Sound skill in communications and technical information exchange with clients, engineers and scientists, government regulators and agencies, as well as technical and non-technical communication to the public
Proven ability to provide written and verbal direction on project delivery
Leader able to demonstrate value of continuous improvement of technical performance
Champions new ideas and initiatives, and creates an environment that supports creativity and innovation
Maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships
Drives collaborative efforts within the region and beyond to deliver consistent, high quality and appropriately scoped technical work
Prior to employment, this position will require the successful passing of a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Geological Science, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field. Professional Engineer (PE), Licensed Professional Geologist (PG) and/or Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP) preferred
Minimum 8-10 years related experience and experience successfully completing technically complex projects and achieving site closures
40 Hour HAZWOPER certification is desired
Project assignments will require a TWIC card
A valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record are required
The role requires a mix of jobsite and office functions; some travel may be required. Time spent in the office environment will include prolonged sitting and computer work. Time spent in the job-site environment will involve standing for long periods of time, walking on uneven surfaces, and exposure to inclement weather. Must be able to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs on a repeated basis.
Must be able to safely climb a ladder on a repeated basis.
