Stantec is seeking a qualified individual to fill a key Operations Coordinator position with our growing Ecosystem Restoration group based out of Little Canada, MN. We are looking for an energetic and organized individual with a strong resource management background to assist with growing our ecosystem restoration practice as a core business service in order to meet demands from our expanding client base and geographic work area. This position is a combination of office- and field-based work activities in Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin. This individual will manage all operational and logistical needs to service projects out of the Little Canada office. This individual shall supervise management and allocation of resources to perform prairie, savanna, forest, wetland, and other natural community restoration and management. Periodic in-state and out-of-state travel is required.
Your Key Responsibilities
Specific job tasks and qualifications may include, but are not limited to:
Strong commitment to health and safety as the top priority in the planning and execution of all office, shop, and field work.
Direct daily operations for up to 15 field-based staff.
Integrate daily routing, weekly scheduling, and long-term planning of staff and resources for multiple, concurrent ecosystem restoration projects in the region.
Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures, quality control procedures, and systems management to maintain a safe and compliant office, shop, and field work environment. Perform routine audits in coordination with health and safety professional and business leadership.
Oversee routine maintenance, staff training and mentorship, and safe use of typical equipment utilized for ecosystem restoration.
Direct equipment, material. and supply acquisition.
Interpret and apply laws and regulations affecting ecosystem restoration and natural areas management, including compliance with workplace safety standards, commercial vehicle laws, pesticide application regulations, and environmental permitting.
Work with ecologists, crew leaders, and project managers to plan and implement ecosystem restoration projects of varying size and character.
Assist with business development and project management tasks including site assessments, budgeting, proposal preparation, quality control, and client contact/ communication.
Work in the field for long hours in all weather conditions to apply ecosystem restoration techniques, tools, and timing for natural area types in the upper Midwest (e.g. prairie, savanna, forest, wetlands, stream, etc.). Activities may include application of various herbicides, mowing, installation of native seeds and plants, prescribed burning, and brush/tree removal. Equipment operations may include chainsaws/brushsaws, backpack herbicide sprayers, ATVs, UTVs, skidsteers, and tractors with various attachments.
Supervise and mentor ecosystem restoration team members/crews.

Knowledge of native plant communities of the upper Midwest, including an understanding of their composition, structure and function.
Proficient with identification of native and invasive plants of the region.
Knowledge of bioengineering techniques and erosion/sediment control materials applications.
Demonstrated analytical and creative problem-solving skills.
Equipment operation and routine maintenance experience.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word, Adobe Acrobat, as well as ability to use various apps for field reporting, documentation, and project coordination.
Possession of valid commercial driver's license is preferred.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in a natural resources, ecology, restoration ecology, or related biological field preferred.
Minimum of five to ten years of experience conducting on-the-ground ecosystem restoration.
Five or more years of experience supervising ecosystem restoration or similar work.
Experience with operations management and development of operations protocols.
Experience scheduling and coordinating ecological restoration staff, equipment and tasks in the face of shifting weather and other factors.
Valid state driver's license (preferred w/ Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License).
Ability to walk 2-4 miles per day in rough terrain and lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to obtain Minnesota Pesticide Applicator's license within one month of hire.
Willingness to travel and conduct field work in potentially remote areas for extended periods.
Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
