The Mechanical Engineering Drafter provides drafting support for the documentation of hardware, assembly, and test fixture designs for Red Lion Controls’ product lines.
The successful candidate will need to be a hands on mechanical drafter that has the energy and drive to help our existing engineering team achieve world class systems results to compete with large, sophisticated competitors and to satisfy exacting customers. We seek a drafter that is comfortable with driving change, embraces ownership of problems and is motivated to respond with a sense of urgency to customers – both internal and external alike.
Essential Job Functions

Visualizes a 3D object understanding what views and dimensions are required and creating 2D drawings, taking into consideration how the part will be machined or formed; what views are needed to completely depict all features of the part; what dimensions are needed to define size and location of each feature of the part; how the part will mate with other parts; and how to neatly organize the dimensions on the drawing for ease of reading and interpreting them.
Creates a 3D CAD model of an object using Solid Works and constrains the design for stability. Creates models in a logical manner that considers the effect on the ability to dimension the draft and to make future revisions to the model.
Creates an assembly model in Solid Works and constrains for stability.
Organizes and manages the filing of all design related CAD files and documents
Ensures all design related documentation meets the design specifications under the guidance of other team members.
Associates’ Degree in mechanical design or drafting; will consider high school diploma combined with experience or skills training in the appropriate fields.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in mechanical design and drafting using Solid Works or similar 3D CAD program.
Working knowledge of geometric principles and basic trigonometry as well as standard drafting practices.
Demonstrates the oral and written communication skill necessary to effectively interface with all levels of company management, staff and outside business contacts.
Attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping abilities.
Basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications.
Proficiency with use of the English language in both written and verbal communications.
Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, machine shop practices, and assembly techniques.
