Based in the Corporate Offices in Princeton, NJ, the Senior Director, Nephrology Marketing will have responsibility for all activities related to conceptualizing and implementing the marketing plans and launch strategies for a potential treatment in late stage development for anemia/patients on dialysis (The product is currently approved in Japan but not yet approved in the United States). Serving as Launch Lead for the new product, this person will design and execute the launch strategies as the company builds its internal capabilities and gears up towards the product launch. The appointed individual will be responsible for educating and galvanizing a movement within Otsuka and the broader patient communities as well as inspiring the organization as it brings this therapy to market. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to building core strategic commercial elements for successful launches, Brand Planning, and in-line brand life cycle management. This person will partner closely with Field Leadership, Market Access, Business Analysis & Insights, Medical Affairs / MSLs, Training and Development, Global Marketing, and be responsible for consistently monitoring Net Sales and expense budgets to maximize product contribution. Thus, it will require cross-functional experience and organizational savvy to develop and execute effectively, and monitor/evaluate performance. In addition, the selected candidate will create the marketing road map for implementation, formulate and review short-and long-range marketing plans, goals, and objectives, develop the KOL strategy, and determine profitability, forecasting and support to the commercial organization. As such, it is required that this person be mission-driven, and passionate about the journey Otsuka's Nephrology team is on today.
This is an important and visible Therapeutic Area within Otsuka today, and considered to be a significant source of new business origination for the company overall. Therefore, and in addition to the immediate mandate surrounding this potential treatment, this person will be expected to play an important role, shaping the future growth of the Specialty Division upon completing this launch.
Key responsibilities include:
Provide leadership to the Marketing function to devise and ensure execution of the launch strategy by creating, core messaging, and launch planning/activities.
Manage the function being fully aware and attuned to the changing healthcare environment, including the dialysis and non-dialysis markets
Deliver a detailed launch plan and forecast, including brand opportunity and strategy.
Build, manage, mentor, and lead the Marketing Team, which currently includes one Marketing Director.
Successfully partner with any outside agencies, collaboration companies, and other entities necessary to assist with commercialization

Within the first 12 months, the new Senior Director of Marketing will:
Understand the unique Otsuka culture and build relationships across the organization
Help to strengthen the Nephrology Therapeutic area within Otsuka

As this is a vital role that is crucial to the future success of the Otsuka organization, the successful candidate will possess the following competencies:
Commercial/Strategic Marketing Acumen - Must possess exceptional commercial acumen and strategic marketing skills. This individual should have product launch or new indication launch experience, having consistently achieved Net Sales and market share objectives. Specialty Market or Nephrology experience required, Dialysis or Business to Business experience a plus. Leader should also have experience across multiple stages of product lifecycle (Development through Phase III) and have supported new product development by working with cross-functional teams, providing commercial input and advice, evaluating target profiles and making recommendations that enhance long-term commercial value.
Results Orientation - This new leader brings a strong entrepreneurial drive and can translate ideas to action, with the motivation to help build a Nephrology Business Unit. S/he will have a history of successfully managing complex projects and driving for improvement of business results. This individual is energized by a challenge, sets stretch goals, and delivers beyond expectations.
Team Leadership - Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead home office and field teams, having managerial courage to make and stand by difficult decisions. S/he must be a strong leader with a track record of attracting, developing, and retaining top-tier talent. This leader should be experienced in optimizing team performance and creating an atmosphere of true teamwork, routinely facilitating the exchange of ideas. Leadership through Launch Readiness and Brand Planning will be early key deliverables. The ideal candidate will lead with drive and energy with an eye on the bottom line, take appropriate risk and motivate individuals and teams to perform at their highest level.
Collaborate/Influence - The leader must have demonstrated the ability to collaborate effectively across functions, build alignment and drive high performance around key objectives. In addition, possess excellent communication skills, be an excellent listener and employ frequent and effective follow-up.
We are seeking a Marketer with a non-conventional marketing background to bring a robust understanding of Commercial activity within the Pharmaceutical industry. Ideally, this person may have come from different functions within Commercial and a combination of different experience across Field (sales), Marketing, Pricing, Contracting, Market Access, etc. This person much have qualification which include and are not limited to:
At least 10+ years of industry or consulting experience and a strong track record of success in commercial leadership roles of increasing scope and scale.
A proven strategic marketer with a strong commercial mindset. At least 5 years in marketing, pre-launch market planning / new product commercialization, business development, or a combination thereof.
Nephrology strongly preferred and / or Specialty Marketing / Orphan or Rare Disease required.
Must bring a strong understanding of the specialty pharmaceutical commercialization process.
A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant disciple such as marketing, science, or finance is required.
An advanced science degree (MBA, MD, RN, PharmD, PhD) is preferred.
