Job Description:

OBJECTIVE:

To provide life enrichment/case management, job development and retention services to the clientele in Pursuits/Summer Skills Camp, Diesel Technology Training, Ability One (referral based only) and IT Primary Plus.  To develop and maintain relationships with local area businesses for the purpose of developing potential job leads.  

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Bachelor’s Degree in a social service area, business, education or related field.  Two years’ experience in the field is preferable.

The incumbent must have a working knowledge of career development processes, strategies and community resources.  It is also preferred that the incumbent have an understanding of the needs and capabilities of populations from disadvantaged communities as well as individuals with disabilities. The incumbent must be personable, present self in a professional manner and have the ability to interact with diverse customers (clients, employees, referral sources and other colleagues) in a culturally respectful and appropriate manner in order to build sound working relationships. The incumbent must be a self-starter, demonstrating the ability to stay focused and disciplined while being flexible to the demands of the job.  In addition, the incumbent must possess effective written and oral communication skills, the ability to meet critical deadlines and quotas, maintain accurate records and demonstrate sound computer skills. The incumbent must be able to work effectively as a team member and must have experience speaking effectively to various small groups in a presenting/informative role. Position requires sitting for extended periods and using a computer keyboard for a minimum of four hours each day.

The incumbent will be expected to maintain confidentiality regarding agency and client records and information.

A valid Colorado driver’s license without a history of violations is also required due to the amount of time in the field.  Overtime and/or weekend hours may be required when necessary as well as some travel to attend meetings and required training. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS: 

Life Coaching/Case Management/Retention 

The Specialist will assist students of the Diesel Technology Training Program, Pursuits/Summer Skills Camp, Ability One and IT Primary Plus through basic case management and life enrichment. The Specialist will develop and maintain productive working relationships with other members of the training team.  The Specialist will assist in training program assessments as necessary. The incumbent will attend/assist with all appropriate Business Advisory Councils. Retention Services will be provided to all who have a determined need for 6 months after employment is secured.  Retention services will integrate elements of job retention, mediation skills, mentor-guide support, employment routine check-ins and will be based on each individual’s need.

Job Development 

The Specialist will assist and motivate all assigned clients, using guided choice strategies to find appropriate employment through the use of job leads and all other resources. The Specialist is responsible for coordinating services and maintaining effective communication with the client and Goodwill of Colorado staff.  As appropriate, Job Fairs and other mechanisms for client presentation will be coordinated and held. 

Tracking Documentation and Reports 

The Life Enhancement Specialist will maintain accurate records of client participation and jobs and wages obtained, utilizing direct contacts and other means to obtain information.  The incumbent will maintain confidentiality at all levels. 

Relationship Management 

The Life Enhancement Specialist will communicate in a timely manner and keep the Manager III, Operations informed of progress, considerations and pertinent information.  The Specialist will cultivate relationships for current employment opportunities, as well as future opportunities for placement.  The incumbent will assist with special projects, serve on committees and attend all pertinent staff and other meetings as required.  The incumbent will deal effectively and calmly with non-routine situations following accepted guidelines and perform other duties as required by the Manager III.
