VP, Medical Affairs North America (United States & Canada)
Overview and main areas of action:
Reporting to the North America Region Head and functionally to the Medical Office Executive VP - Chief Medical Officer, the VP, Medical Affairs North America (United States & Canada) will lead the creation, development and coordination of projects which provide medical and scientific evidence and support, will act as the key interface between the Global Medical Affairs organization, several global functions (Marketing, R&D, etc.) and the North American region countries (United States and Canada).
What will be your responsibilities at bioMérieux?
Establish and lead Medical Affairs activities in North America (United States and Canada) while guiding and managing the 2 countries' Medical Affairs Advisors and their teams, along with the 2 country managers.
Actively contribute to the development of Medical Affairs in the Region in interaction with Global Medical Affairs.
Implement the Medical Affairs strategy in the region in coordination with Head of the Region, Chief Medical Officer, Country Medical Advisors
Establish, maintain the level of medical and scientific expertise within Medical Affairs which is necessary to provide relevant advice to appropriate individuals within the Region
Coordinate medical affairs activities of the Region
Coordinate long term relationships with current and rising thought leaders. Build a strong network of experts (clinicians and microbiologists).
Lead/Contribute to medical educational efforts in the Region
Identify potential research gaps and lead/contribute to local post-launch studies.
Be the Medical Referral Expert for the Region, to inform corporate functions about local medical needs.
Lead actions to increase the scientific/medical visibility of the company: publications, symposia/conferences, workshops, professional/medical/patient societies, associations...
Manage the countries' Medical Advisors and Medical Science Liaisons (MSL), identify appropriate skills to achieve objectives, develop team members, implement and follow key medically-related performance indicators, ensure appropriate budget and resource management
Who are you?
Medical Doctor with American Board certification or specialization in Infectious Diseases, Clinical Microbiology or a closely-associated discipline from an accredited university in the USA or Canada
Minimum 5 years' continuous clinical experience in a related field of expertise in a hospital setting
Minimum 5 years' experience in i) a key medical affairs role in a health care industry directly interacting with health care providers (preferably in acute hospital settings) OR ii) a key management role in a large healthcare organization, network or enterprise
Substantial experience and knowledge of in vitro diagnostics (IVDs) very highly desirable
Substantial experience and knowledge of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology very highly desirable
Excellent knowledge of hospital/ medical environment
Proven track record to lead transversal groups and projects, internally and externally
Experience in the design, conduct, management, follow-up and analysis of post-launch clinical trials
Experience with deployment of medical education programs, KOL groups, expert advisory groups
Demonstrate high ethical and professional standards with all business contacts
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills
Ability to create, motivate and work in a multicultural team environment
Creative problem-solving skills and decisiveness.
Project management skills
Fluency in English (written and spoken); additional language(s) an asset
