SPECIFIC JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • This is a part-time consultant position with an anticipated end date of September 2020. Extension of the work beyond September 2020 is possible at the discretion of the Government.
  • This is a remote worker position; candidate will perform their majority of the duties from their home geographic location.

ANSER is seeking a part time remote consultant experienced in statistics and Design of Experiments (DOE) to support and mentor staff evaluating new methodologies, conducting instrument validation, and establishing and/or modifying protocols in a variety of forensic science fields. Although not exhaustive, examples of technical areas to be supported include DNA, drug, trace chemistry, and latent print analysis. Specific experience in any of the technical areas is not required. Anticipated level of effort is approximately 40-60 hours per month.

Candidate will primarily conduct their consulting remotely using video conferencing or other remote technologies as appropriate as well as reviewing documents and providing feedback and guidance. Occasional reimbursable travel to the client's location in Forrest Park, GA will be required. Travel duration will typically not exceed three days.

The candidate will be responsible for reviewing experimental plans and objectives, advising on the scientific and statistical strengths and weaknesses of the approach, and providing background and rationale for alternative DOE approaches. The candidate will also review experimental findings and the statistical interpretation of the results to verify the use of the proper statistical tool(s) and their subsequent application. The candidate may need to train researchers on statistics methodologies, the use of common statistical software tools to assist in data interpretation, and how to avoid common mistakes (both technical and analytical) in the data interpretation.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

Required Qualifications

  • US Citizen
  • At least 10 years of experience developing design of experiments, experiment data analysis, and statistical interpretation
  • At least 10 years of experience teaching statistics at the collegiate level

Desired Experience

  • Prior work in a forensic science crime laboratory
  • Prior forensic science research experience
  • Publication in peer reviewed scientific journals

EDUCATION & YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree or above in a statistics or a statistics-related field; PhD preferred
  • At least 20 years of experience performing statistics related work
