Function/Duties of Position

The Research Assistant will provide technical support for ongoing research projects investigating the effects of maternal nutrition on offspring brain development and behavior in the nonhuman primate (NHP) model, including participating in studies that require direct work with NHPs. This position requires a reliable, detail oriented individual, with animal experience. The primary goal of this position will be timely, detailed coding of behavioral videos. Assistance with temperament tests, animal transport and sedation, data and sample organization will be required. Other duties will include maintaining lab and equipment cleanliness, organization and inventories. This position may require working weekends, holidays, and extended hours at times, as required by the scope of the position.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (4 yr) /No Experience, OR AA (2 yr) and 2 years of relevant experience OR No degree and 4 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in both written and oral formats
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to interact effectively with ONPRC investigators/staff and collaborators
  • Ability to prioritize work demands, and coordinate research protocols with other staff
  • Organizational skills and careful attention to details to satisfactorily perform job duties
  • High level of self-motivation and integrity
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing over 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand for several continuous hours
  • Ability to code video and process data, sitting at computer for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work with hazardous chemicals and hazardous biological substances
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with our without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Animal experience
  • Previous experience working with animals in a research or laboratory setting
  • Non-human primate handling experience
  • 6 months or more experience using PowerPoint, Access, Adobe Photoshop or other graphics software, and GraphPad Prism
