St. Louis College of Pharmacy is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of research technician II within the Center for Clinical Pharmacology in the lab of Prof. Bahaa Elgendy. The Center is a collaborative between Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis - Department of Anesthesiology and the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. We are seeking a highly motivated synthetic organic chemists and medicinal chemists to join a comprehensive drug discovery program. Our lab is involved in highly interdisciplinary research program, which covers medicinal chemistry, structural biology, biochemical and biophysical assays, and biological studies.


  • Perform laboratory synthesis of organic molecules and prepare the intermediates for the synthesis of these molecules;
  • Develop and implement synthetic routes for production of synthetic compounds;
  • Apply modern techniques of organic synthesis including a variety of organic reactions at several scales, microwave chemistry, LC-MS, HPLC, MS, flash chromatography, recrystallization, and distillation.
  • Maintains files on research and assists with data entry.
  • Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning.

  • BS or MS degree in Organic Chemistry including synthetic chemistry research experience. The ideal candidate will have experience in the field of medicinal chemistry.
  • Experience with multi-step synthetic organic chemistry.
  • Familiarity with modern chromatographic and analytical techniques, including flash chromatography, HPLC, LCMS and NMR.
  • Familiarity with ChemDraw and literature searching software (SciFinder or Reaxys).
  • Strong desire to work in multi-disciplinary teams, learn new skills and proactively solve problems.
  • Highly self-motivated, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
