Job Purpose

A Chemist I is responsible for on time delivery of projects. This role is principally responsible for formulating, evaluating, and supporting the formulae of the regional business. The ideal candidate will be efficient at working with defined standard operating procedures (SOPs) and adjusting new and established product lines to achieve performance or application parameters under direction of a senior chemist or manager.

Key Accountabilities

The Chemist I candidate possesses a high degree of personal initiative and demonstrated problem solving skills using technical acumen. The individual has a solid understanding of chemistry or material science as well as the ability to interpret project plans and work independently on a daily to weekly basis.

The chosen candidate will work closely with a senior chemist, project lead or direct manager to modify existing products, manufacture new experimental formulations and evaluate process changes for internal and external customers. The individual will follow project work plans, lab work requests (LWR) and general lab work flows. The Chemist I will have responsibilities for 1) making and testing formulations from developed SOP's on the directives of lab personnel 2) communicate and report test results to lab personnel, and 3) deliver results within established timelines.

The candidate will be organized, self-motivated and able to work easily with cross-functional groups including but not limited to quality control and pilot plants. The successful candidate must be able to communicate clearly in both written and oral communications that can include email correspondence, short written reports and spreadsheets containing testing results. The candidate will be capable of keeping up-to-date, detailed records on all work underway. The individual will sustain a safe work environment by maintaining a clean and orderly laboratory and observing the company's safety rules to ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental and safety regulations.

Key Activities

A. Conform with all site and laboratory safety requirements and policies
B. Preform sample preparation, product testing and data analysis.
C. Present project data to stakeholders in and effective and efficient manner.
D. Represent R&D and interface with multiple stakeholders (internal and external)
E. Provide direct support to sales, marketing and supply chain efforts.
F. Use scientific and technical knowledge and skills to solve problems


1. Minimum: associates degree in a laboratory focused program
2. Preferred: BS/BA in technical field
3. Good knowledge of chemistry/polymers
4. Knowledge of MS-Office software
5. Pragmatic, proactive, quick learner, self-motivated
6. Passionate to learn & deliver results on time
7. Strong team player
8. Capability of integration in an international/multi-cultural environment
9. Excellent verbal and written communication is required
