The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

As an Automation Technician, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and improving the mechanical, electrical and PLC systems of facilities and production equipment/components.

  • Performing Preventative Maintenance on production and facilities equipment along with safety devices.  This will include setting up PM’s on new equipment, redline PMs on existing equipment, review cycle time of existing PMs, and give all changes to Supervisor to update in SAMS.

  • Assisting Plant Engineering team in planning, scheduling, and coordinating equipment downtime for corrective maintenance, major repairs and overhauls.

  • Developing and implementing maintenance procedures and techniques for a safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the plant.

  • Always using safe working methods and procedures to avoid personal injury, injury to co-workers, or damage to company property.

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M is looking for candidates who must have the following qualifications:

  • Must possess a high school diploma/GED (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

  • Must possess a 2-year degree, or be within 6 months of obtaining a degree, from an accredited college in an electrical/mechanical related field: mechatronics, automation, robotics, fluid power, or management approved equivalent.  In Lieu of a 2-year technical degree, a minimum of two (2) years maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment will also be accepted. 

  • Must have received a Medium to High Likelihood of Success on the 3M Maintenance Selection Test Battery (MSTB).

  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.  Including, but not limited to the knowledge of: mechanical, electrical, pneumatic symbols and nomenclature.

  • Must be willing to work overtime

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • 2 or more years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Possess good communication skills.

  • Work well with others

  • Experience with welding, machining, fabrication and rigging

  • Experience with root cause analysis

Travel: May include up to 5% domestic

Relocation: Is not authorized

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
