Job Description:

The Senior Human Resources Business Partner is responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and management in designated business units. The position works with the Leaders of Human Resources and helps implement Human Resources programs and policies in their business and function.  This partner serves as a consultant to management on human resource-related issues. The successful business partner acts as an employee champion and change agent, balancing the needs of the business with the employee.

The role assesses and anticipates Human Resources-related needs. Communicating needs proactively with our Human Resources department and business management, the Human Resources Business Partner seeks to develop integrated solutions. The position formulates partnerships across the Human Resources function to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflects the business objectives of the organization.

We are looking for a Senior Human Resources Business Partner who likes interacting with managers and employees and becomes the trusted partner of both managers and employees on issues regarding employee relations, training, and recruiting.   This Senior Human Resources Business Partner would be an advisor to managers in the Northern California sites to help them improve their communication and development of employees.  This person would also link with employees and help them understand their roles, responsibilities, opportunities, and address their concerns.  This person would link to Human Resources Vice President in San Jose to help build employee engagement and manager development strategies and practices.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Partners with employees and management to communicate various human resource policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations.

  2. Investigates and responds to employee relation issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations and civil rights complaint and works with management to resolve issue. Respectfully discuss complaints with employees and managers and provide strong documentation of findings.  Make recommendations on course of action and help implement.

  3. Monitors and advises managers and supervisors in the progressive discipline system of the company. Monitors the implementation of a performance improvement process with non-performing employees.

  4. Consults with leaders about challenging people situations.

  5. Conducts exit interviews, analyzes data and makes recommendations to the management team for corrective action and continuous improvement.

  6. Understands the business and financial issues for the business unit they team with;  attend business review meetings, understand the effect of employee issues and hiring on revenue growth, profitability, and margins

  7. Responds to employee relation issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations and civil rights complaint and refers complaint to management.

  8. Coach Managers on company policies and also on approaches to effectively communicate and engage in order to increase employee engagement.

  9. Articulate accurately all HR policies and provide trainings to employee and manager regarding to new policies and procedures.

  10. Proactive linking with managers and employees to understand business strategies, employee perspectives, and to help improve organization and managerial effectiveness.

  11. Maintains and coordinates employee recognition programs.

  12. Represent the company for any unemployment claims

  13. Documentation of issues and communicating next steps to managers and HR Management.

  14. Conducts new-hire orientation.

  15. Participates in recruiting for key roles.  May be involved with writing and updating job descriptions and HR policies.

  16. Additional duties may be assigned.


  1. Human Resources employee relations experience.

  2. Human Relations experience coaching managers on how to effectively coach employees

  3. Customer/Client Focus.

  4. High Ethical standards and conduct.

  5. Personal Effectiveness/Credibility.

  6. Experience using judgment and problem solving in order to positively resolve workplace conflicts.

  7. Excellent at building rapport and managing relationships with business leaders and employees.

  8. Ability to work effectively and support other members of the HR team, as well as to align to company HR programs and policies.

Basic Qualifications

  • High school diploma

  • 5 years’ experience in a high-volume employer position such as an HR Generalist or HR Business Partner

  • Valid California driver’s license with good driving record

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Experience in employment law and other government compliance regulations

Other Requirements

  • The successful candidate must have excellent data entry skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office, ability to use standard office equipment, good communication skills, and attention to detail.

  • Strong knowledge of California laws regarding employees.   Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, excellent communication and organization skills.

  • Experience handling employee investigations, and balancing employee and manager’s viewpoints.

  • A skilled coach for both managers and employees, and can work through employee relations issues from complaint to positive resolution, coaching both manager and employee.

  • Ability to handle and safeguard sensitive and confidential information required.

  • Ability to speak Spanish helpful, but not necessary.

  • Project and team management/leadership skills and experience. Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with associates. Capability of effective planning and priority setting. Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Positive team player able to support other members of the HR organization in their roles in recruiting, benefits, compliance, compensation, and manager/employee development. Excellent communication and organization skills.

  • A skilled coach for both managers and employees, and can work through employee relations issues from complaint to positive resolution, coaching both manager and employee.

  • Able to deliver management skill-based training to improve employee engagement and retention.

  • Calm in high-volume and high intensity situations.

  • Ability to consistently meet daily, weekly and monthly deadlines.

  • Familiarity with HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems) software is a plus.


25% travel to various worksites and or recruiting locations is required in the Bay Area and in California. A valid driver’s license is required for this position.
