Responsibility for setting Akorn’s global strategy for all Direct Materials procurement, including primary and secondary packaging materials. Drive policy and strategy to improve the relationships with all suppliers of the corporation as well as develop integrated programs to remove costs from the acquisition process. Define and implement global sourcing strategies that consolidate and optimize both the supplier base and services, while securing the lowest Total Cost of Ownership and access to the highest levels of service and quality. Conduct spend analysis and applicable support of business case development. Provide sourcing expertise to senior management for R&D projects involving the selection, negotiation and acquisition of materials on a worldwide basis. Provide timely information and support as required for projects from R&D through submission, approval, and launch. Identify, develop and manage strategic business relationships and gain a comprehensive understanding of the business. Work closely with various functions to ensure proper selection, evaluation and acquisition of all materials while also mitigating critical situations as they arise with the supplier base. Proactively identify key risks to future supply chain and propose and drive the necessary changes to address them. Negotiate contracts with supplier base while seeking input from internal Akorn stakeholders as needed. Work with Financial Planning & Analysis team and others to gather and assess budget forecasts, further supporting sourcing plans for applicable business functions, plants, etc.
Be committed to cost control and cost reductions for the company while at the same time maintaining continuous supply of materials. Introduce new and innovative ideas for the Procurement of materials Actively develop and manage supplier performance using key performance indicators and scorecard development, business reviews and effective contract change/dispute management process. Lead a cross-functional team of professionals during various sourcing and supplier management initiatives.
Qualifications 10+ years of Materials Management / Procurement experience within the Pharmaceutical Industry required (primary/secondary packaging experience preferred, knowledge of sterile manufacturing a plus). Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree or MBA preferred, with emphasis on purchasing, supply chain, operations Broad knowledge and excellent execution of negotiation strategy, macroeconomics, and understanding of various commodity groups Category Management experience preferred Strong computer skills, ideally with experience using Windows-based PC programs Ability to work effectively at the executive level and at all suppliers Ability to coordinate multiple group efforts within the company to achieve objectives Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent organizational and problem solving skills Ability to identify processes needing improvement, and to recommend improvements
