Summary of Position

In this highly visible position, an ideal candidate will demonstrate previous success in meeting or exceeding production schedules while focusing on Safety, Quality, Cost Control, Delivery Requirements and Employee Development. As a key member of the leadership team that champions lean manufacturing strategies, candidates will participate in continuous process improvement and quality enhancement and be responsible for 25+ direct reports.  Oversee and direct the activities of those handling shipping and receiving all parts within the plant.  Responsible for the timely delivery of material to both internal and external customers with an emphasis on accurately documented transactions to ensure inventory accuracy.  Provide system analysis, fill rate analysis, and implement inventory management programs.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Effectively select, develop/maintain position specific training programs, deliver performance feedback and disciplinary action to assigned staff to promote a collaborative and motivated production environment.

  • Conduct scheduled safety audits, deliver safety training and ensure employees follow established safety guidelines. 

  • With key work partners to collaborate, plan and implements process improvement and cost reduction initiatives. 

  • Evaluate, disposition, and process rejects according to established policy and practices.

  • Monitor supplier product quality, inventory levels and initiate replenishment order for consumables supplies.

  • Define, measure and report on production metrics and utilize information to formulate objectives for staff.

  • Conduct department meetings to communicate status on relevant items and ensure company policies are being followed.

  • Develop, communicate, and measure performance metric for receiving department.

  • Review allocated warehouse space and optimize layout as needed.

  • Participate in daily production meeting and provide input to resolve material handling issues as identified.

  • Establish annual goals and manage staff for successful completion.

  • Identify, document and measure cost reduction initiatives and recommendation for improving material handling efficiencies.

  • Conduct staff training to ensure appropriate skills are developed for optimal departmental coverage.

  • Use MRP system to generate reports and analyze data to facilitate the timely delivery of material.

  • Daily plan and schedule resources to ensure deliveries are met with minimal scheduled hours.

  • Communicate regularly with internal department to resolve issues as needed.

  • Conduct regular departmental meetings to communicate goals, changes, and provide daily priorities.

  • Promote good housekeeping practices and a safe workplace.

  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • 3+ years’ experience in Production environment, with proven track record of problem-solving skills, cost management, and high-performance team interaction; Supervision in a Material Handling/Logistics environment is strongly preferred.

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in direct employee supervision required. 

  • 3-5 years related work experience with exposure to Lean methodology and KANBAN pull systems environment.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with a proven track record in MRP, problem solving and cost management.

  • Strong communication skills essential, both verbal and written, and able to work within a collaborative team environment

  • Intermediate knowledge of Excel required
