Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking is seeking a highly motivated Water Resources Engineer with software development experience to join our Chantilly, VA operation. Qualified applicants are required to have experience with water resources engineering modeling applications, Information Management & GIS, Python and R programming. Our ideal candidate prefers to focus on water resources related projects and has a degree either in engineering or computer science. Applicants with a minimum of 10 years of experience are preferred.

We are looking for a qualified applicant to support and lead software development for a wide variety of applications including information management, environmental services, and water resources engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities :
  • Coordinate and develop software applications for engineering, environmental, and information management projects
    • Build custom applications and tools that integrate with other H&H engineering software programs such as HEC-RAS
    • Utilize open source GIS-based tools to develop H&H modeling suites for flood modeling applications
    • Analyze and develop innovative solutions to improve upon existing proprietary applications
  • Lead a group of software developers within the Chantilly Office; mentor team of GIS Analysts and Water Resources Engineers currently using Python/R Scripting to improve engineering, data development and data management processes and efficiency
  • Provide senior leadership to a group of programmers nationally, predominantly focused on water resources application development in support of our flood hazard mapping program, potentially including the maintenance and upgrade of existing tools
  • Support project managers in the development of custom applications to improve process efficiencies and ensure project success, as well as conveying potential application development concepts to our clients
  • Collaborate with our existing national software development team and promote software development applications globally

Skills / Qualifications

Role Requirements :
  • BS degree in Water Resources Engineering, Computer Science or related degree
  • 10+ years of experience supporting engineering applications and/or information management projects
  • Required experience of desired applicants includes:
    • Python/R Programming
    • IM/GIS Applications (i.e. ArcGIS, OpenSource GIS, Asset management software, Web-Mapping Applications)
    • Intermediate knowledge of HPC / Data Science
    • Water Resources Engineering Modeling Software
      • USACE Software Application Development (i.e. HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, etc.)
  • Supplemental experience in one or more of the following areas will also be considered in addition to those required above:
    • Bash Scripting
    • SQL Programming
    • Fortran Programming
    • Graphical Processing Unit (GPU) Applications (i.e. NVIDIA, CUDA Python, PyCUDA, etc.)
    • Field Collection/Mobile Applications (IOS, Android, etc.)
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.)
  • Experience with Machine Learning and/or AI
  • Experience with data processing from IoT sensors, drones and other remote sensing devices
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills
  • Successful candidates will have an energetic and positive attitude toward working as part of a team and with multiple clients on a diverse projects
  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
