Our Asheville North Carolina Plant is expanding, and we have an opening for a Work Cell Manager. The Work Cell Manager is responsible for defining the resources required (Work Cell) to support the customer specific business model establishing the work cell and, once operational, driving continuous improvement in operational metrics for the business unit.  The Work Cell Manager will report to the Business Unit Manager and be a critical player in meeting customer needs and plant metrics, both operational and financial . 


    Drive continuous improvement in operational metrics while meeting all customer commitments maximizing profitability within the business unit.  Drive team to exceed customer expectations.  Provide exceptional support to customers, team members and shareholders and stakeholders.  Develop uniquely accountable and responsive operations team.



    Recruitment and Retention:
    ·         Identify people and capacity requirements to that meet the needs of the Work Cell and the projected  customer/product demand.  (i.e. # of ME’s, QE’s, TE’s, IE’s) Identify skilled subject matter experts, as required, to support the operations requirements unique to the end customer supported by the Work Cell.
    ·         Communicate people requirements to work with Functional Managers (FM) to establish appropriate team resourcing for projected mix and business volumes.

    ·         Ensure team is accountable, responsive and focused on continual improvements. that drives operational improvements.
    ·         Identify key factors in team member turnover that can be improved and make improvements.

    Employee and Team Development:
    ·         Identify individual and team strengths and development needs on an ongoing basis; ensure the Work Cell members recognize they are mutually dependent on one another to meet both operating and financial metrics..
    ·         Coach and mentor Work Cell team members daily to deliver excellence to every internal and external customer.

    ·         Work with Functional Managers to ensure proper training for all team members.

    ·         Conduct daily/weekly/monthly Work Cell meetings for the purpose of communicating key information.

    Performance Management:
    ·         Establish clear measurable goals and objectives to determine individual and team results (i.e. operational metrics, results against project timelines, knowledge of operational roles and responsibilities, personal development goals, etc.) that drive the team’s success and result in a strong customer Net Promoter Score (NPS)).

    ·         Use analytical data to identify areas of improvement and then drive continual performance improvements.
    ·         Provide ongoing feedback to Functional Managers on team members’ contribution to the Work Cell.
    ·         Express pride in team and encourage members of the Work Cell to feel good about take pride in their accomplishments.
    ·         Drive individuals and the team to continuously improve in key operational metrics and in the achievement of the customer and Work Cell goals.
    ·         Coordinate Leading activities of a  large cross functional teams and to ensure strong performance at all times keep them focused in times of crises.
    ·         Ensure recognition and rewards are for Work Cell members are recommended fairly and consistently in the Work Cell to Functional Managers.

    ·         Use analytical data to identify areas of improvement and then drive continual performance improvements.

    ·         Provide a communication forum for the exchange of ideas and information within the Work Cell and between Work Cells (promote Best Practices).
    ·         Organize verbal and written ideas clearly and use an appropriate business style.
    ·         Ask questions; encourage input from Work Cell team.
    ·         Assess communication style of individual team members and adapt own communication style accordingly.
    ·         Act as a communication link between the Business Unit and Operations Unit.

    ·         Support team with customer communication to ensure that written and verbal communication is ‘on message’, helping to propagate the customer’s satisfaction


    Business Strategy and Direction:
    ·         Know and Understand the campus Business Unit’s strategic directions.
    ·         Define, develop and implement a customer/Work Cell strategy that contributes to the campus Business Unit’s strategic directions. success.

    ·         Develop an understanding of the Functional business strategies as they pertain to the Work Cell/customer.
    ·         Provide regular updates to the Function Manager, Business Unit Manager, and Assistant Operations Manager on the execution of the strategy.
    ·         Identify resource requirements that required to meet the needs of the Work Cell and the customer/product (i.e. machines, lines, visuals people; equipment; process); understand the linkage between customer demand and resources required..
    ·         Communicate resource requirements to Functional Managers; work with Functional Managers to solution non-standard or unique requirements needed to support the Customer..

    Cost Management:
    ·         Develop the monthly business unit forecast with the Business Unit Manager.
    ·         Identify creative ways to reduce cost by streamlining processes and systems (i.e. incremental scrap reductions and throughput improvements, modification of responsibilities or consolidation of tasks, elimination of non-value-added processes, or complete re-engineering of processes and systems).
    ·         Utilize tools to monitor department cost and cost trends, striving continuously to improve value.
    ·         Provide feedback on costs and cost trends to Business Unit Manager,  and Assistant Operations Manager and Operations Manager on costs and cost trends.

    Forecast Development and Accuracy:
    ·         Prepare timely forecasts for the Work Cell.
    ·         Compare forward forecast results to historical actual results for trend assessment and analysis.
    ·         Complete monthly variance of actual results versus the forecast on in a timely manner and communicate results to Business Unit Manager, Assistant Operations Manager, Operations Manager and Work Cell Team.


    ·         Adhere to all safety and health rules and regulations associated with this position and as directed by supervisor.
    ·         Comply and follow all procedures within the company security policy.

    ·         Train the Work Cell teams on the validity of management by metrics and, with the team, monitor all Work Cell metrics.
    ·         Drive continuous improvement through disciplined trend reporting, trend analysis and metrics management.
    ·         Assure that procedures and work instructions are efficient, clearly understood, and not redundant.
    ·         Offer new ideas and suggestions for improvement. Identify and implement new practices and processes.
    ·         Demonstrate a commitment to customer service; anticipate, meet, and exceed expectations by solving problems quickly and effectively; making customer issues a priority.
    ·         Lead by example.
    ·         Exchange knowledge and information with other in-house units Work Cells and across Jabil facilities to ensure best practices are shared throughout the Jabil organization.
    ·         Ensure all sensitive and confidential information is handled appropriately.
    ·         Review all internal and external business plans, process changes, and personnel changes related to Work Cell. Influence win/win outcome on unreasonable demands and bad plans; help Business Unit Manager to effectively manage the customer’s expectations..
    ·         Adhere to all safety and health rules and regulations associated with this position and as directed by supervisor.
    ·         Comply and follow all procedures within the company security policy.

    ·         Manage the quotation process for commercial projects, and, as appropriate, support the New Product Introduction (NPI) team in the quotation process for new products.


    • Bachelor’s degree preferred

    • Minimum five years’ experience

    • One or more years in a supervisory role

    • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

    Preferred Skills and Experience

    • Running a production team and leading cross-functional teams

    • Managing an operations P&L

    • Prior work history and background in manufacturing within the healthcare industry

    • Manufacturing operations experience

    • Lean knowledge / experience / certification

    • Jabil Bronze certified or equivalent
