TranSystems’ Santa Ana, CA office seeks a Senior Highway Engineer to join our growing office of roadway, highway, structural, transit, rail, and intermodal designers.
The position includes the development and calculations for highway design drawings, details, layouts, cost estimates, studies, reports, specifications and work products. Candidates with a minimum of 10 years of experience working with key highway improvement agencies including but not limited to Caltrans District 7, 12, 8 and 11, LA Metro, OCTA, SBCTA, RCTC and local counties and cities are recommended. The engineer will have the opportunity to work on challenging projects in a unique and dynamic work environment.
Plans, designs and directs final design package components and Project Reports for roadway and highway projects for states and municipalities; and federal government projects.
General Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Prepares and or directs; 1) development of highway final design construction documents, reports, specifications, plans, for complex projects.
Plans and develops engineering projects concerned with unique or controversial problems. This involves exploration of subject area, definition of scope and selection of problems for investigation, and development of novel concepts and approaches.
Organizes and develops project team to execute specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, project design, preparation of technical plans, and project deliverables. Must be able to delegate and lead tasks.
Develop project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.
Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and manpower, resolving engineering design problems.
Evaluates and design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
Shows understanding of team management, develops project scope of work, estimating manpower needs, and tracks project progress.
Assures that the project is completed within the allocated period of time and within the budget that has been assigned.
Maintains liaison with individuals and units within or outside his organization with responsibility for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the field.
Develop and present proposals to clients.
Plans and executes project meetings. May negotiate a difficult project issue with the client, such as technical challenges, scope changes or schedule acceleration.
Assures the project meets quality control and quality assurance guidelines.
Interprets changes in the contract and advises management on needed changes.
Maintain professional, technical, and supervisory skills by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies and mentoring activities. Supervisory Responsibilities – May have supervisory responsibilities as a Group Leader or Team Leader. Education/Experience – Bachelor’s degree in the field of civil engineering and 10 years of experience working with key highway improvement agencies including but not limited to Caltrans District 7, 12, 8 and 11, LA Metro, OCTA, SBCTA, RCTC and local counties and cities. Proven experience in coordinating with these agencies for the delivery of highway improvement projects through all phases of project development. Computer Skills – Microstation and Inroads, AutoCAD and Civil 3D a plus, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and various engineering software systems. Certificates and Licenses – Registration as a licensed Professional Civil Engineer.
