The Director will be responsible for assisting the Vice President or Senior Vice President with the day to day operations and long term planning within their division. This position will oversee the Regional Underwriting Managers and Underwriters, as well as work closely with Operations, Sales, Product Development, Funding, IT, Training, Human Resources, Post Closing, and Credit Quality.
Essential Job Functions:
Oversee the duties of Underwriting Managers
Travel to Freedom offices on a regular basis to meet with underwriting staff as well as operational staff
Identify training needs within existing staff and utilize appropriate measures to improve by taking advantage of resources available
Work in conjunction with Product Development; RUMs; NRP leadership and IT in building a uniform best practices to be utilized in the division for all facets of the loan transaction
Work with Freedom leadership in boarding, training, and retaining any future acquisitions, as applicable
Maintain the pulse of the National pipeline and utilize load balancing to help meet turn times
Identify staffing needs and management needs within the division and work with recruiting and HR to identify and hire qualified candidates
Assist with 2nd level/3rd level reviews when needed
Respond timely to exception requests, using sound judgment to ensure exceptions are within agency and/or investor guidelines
Respond timely to audit reports from Credit Quality working with RUMs to cure issues as well as educate staff on deficiencies
Respond timely to emails from manager's and/or their direct report and sales
Provide feedback to direct reports as needed whether positive or constructive criticism
Work with IT for specific projects tied to the underwriting department to ensure smooth file flow
Work with Vice President in developing, managing and directing underwriting/operational strategies and objectives to ensure achievement of our goal to deliver high quality loan decisions
To be Partners with Production Sales and Operations to promote and achieve the highest level of customer service
To be Partners with Compliance, Risk management, Quality Control and Underwriting Managers, to ensure alignment and achievement of risk profile and goals
Any additional duties deemed necessary from time to time, by request of the Vice President, Senior Vice President, or Chief Credit Officer

Strong knowledge of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac guidelines and AUS
Strong knowledge of FHA/VA guidelines and AUS
Strong knowledge of State and Federal laws pertaining to the mortgage banking industry (i.e. RESPA, TILA, ECOA, etc.)
Ability to perform mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary
Excellent customer service skills with strong attention to detail
Time Management skills and the ability to prioritize workload based on department SLA's and member needs
Strong analytical skills required with a high degree of accuracy
Ability to work flexible hours as needed
Ability to multi-task in other areas of the unit
Positive attitude and team-oriented spirit
Education and/or Experience
A minimum of 10 years of mortgage underwriting experience is required
A minimum of 5 years mortgage management experience
BA/ BS required
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques and styles. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals Ability to compute rate, ratio, percentage, and draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
