Job Description:

HII-Mission Driven Innovative Solutions, Inc. (HII-MIS) provides mission-critical engineering and technical service to Information Technology, Federal Civilian, and National Security, Aerospace & Defense and International government and commercial customers at over 100 locations worldwide.

HII-MDIS is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work out of their San Diego office.

HII provides software development and IT support to the MK 18 Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (UUV) program at SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific. The MK 18 program features Hydroid’s REMUS 100 & 600 unmanned vehicles and will be an important part of future littoral surveillance and mine counter measures efforts by our military customer.

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of an engineering team to design and support Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (UUV) mission support equipment

  • Conduct Finite Element Analysis of Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (UUV) mission support equipment

  • Perform Three-dimensional design, prototyping, fabrication and testing of Unmanned Undersea Vehicle (UUV) mission support equipment

Qualifications and Experience:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, or Ocean Engineering, OR have a minimum of 4 years of demonstrated, specific experience with successful design, testing, production, and documentation of marine environment hardware

  • Two years of experience with 3D CAD programs to include either SolidWorks, SolidEdge, or Inventor

  • Demonstrated FEA experience for dynamic structures

  • Five years of demonstrated experience in the design of electro-mechanical systems

  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite to include Word, PowerPoint and Excel


  • Five years of demonstrated experience designing MK 18 Support Equipment to include the 11 m Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat (RHIB) Side Launch and Recovery System (SL&RS) and the Stern Gate Launch and Recovery (SGL&R) device.


  • All candidates will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and drug screening per HII requirements.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.

  • The selected applicants will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
