Job Description:

Sledgehammer Games is seeking a Studio Art Manager to help our Art Department to reach higher levels of quality, efficiency, and innovation. This person will be responsible for managing and mentoring various leads within our Art Department, and will be a direct line to our studio leadership team and other key stakeholders both internally and externally. This person will work closely with other departments including engineering to represent the Art Department's needs, tools, and pipelines to help our teams create innovative content that leverages their creativity and makes their jobs easier.  The goal is to develop technology and tools that allow our team to create exceptional AAA games. 
The role of Studio Art Manager requires candidates to be excellent and persuasive communicators, capable of dealing with a wide variety of internal and external partners. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with all degrees of ownership, consistently finding ways to add value to the team and project.  This person will help evolve the culture of our Art Department, representing the views of our artists to the rest of the leadership team and helping to make Sledgehammer Games a fun environment where people come to do the best work of their careers.
Your Mission:

  • Drive the process of planning for the Art Department with the leads, engaging key stakeholders like Engineering to align our tools and features with the needs of the project and the art teams.

  • Manage and mentor various leads and team members within our Art Department to provide exceptional support in career growth and performance management.

  • Identify opportunities to improve our pipelines and process to increase efficiency and the quality of our work.

  • Work with Development Directors to align Art Department resources with project milestones.

  • Facilitate communication between the Art Department and other departments at the studio.

  • Be an active participant in reviews, with particular regard to schedule/milestones.

Player Profile:

  • 10+ years experience in art roles in video game development.

  • Multiple shipped titles in leadership positions.

  • Extensive people management and team building experience.

  • Familiarity with Maya, Photoshop, ZBrush, Substance, and other content authoring tools

  • Understanding of different pipelines within the Art Department such as character asset creation, world building, outsource asset development, etc.

Bonus XP:

  • Strong project management capabilities.

  • Master's degree (M.A.) or equivalent education.

  • General understanding of game-specific technical knowledge.

  • Experience in the first person shooter genre.
