The Consumer Auto Specialist Jr. position is responsible for accurate and timely preparation of all Motor Vehicle titled and non-titled auto related loan files to include evaluating member supplied information and all supporting documentation. The Consumer Auto Specialist Jr. will review all support documentation including but not limited to purchase orders, title work, lease buyout packages, and sales tax to assemble a completely documented file for closing.


The Consumer Auto Specialist Jr. is also responsible for assisting with motor vehicle lien perfections in accordance with the rules and regulations for all states, while protecting the credit union’s collateral and reducing potential risk and loss. This position participates in ongoing compliance and titling training, and responsible for facilitating training for lending staff.  This position is responsible for the daily auto loan paid report and must adhere to timely and accurate posting of checks and releasing liens for distribution to dealers, other financial institutions and members. This position also participates in ongoing DMV titling training.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:


Assist with processing auto loans to include: researching compliance issues, communicating information to all parties involved in the transaction, meeting underwriting conditions, resolving issues, validating data, and updating systems with accurate information. 



Assist determining the need for and calculating sales tax based on city, state, and county requirements.


Assist with generating closing documents, while adhering to all state DMV policies. Analyze and complete all motor vehicle title documents, submit to appropriate state to ensure credit union lien perfection, and ensure member’s ability to transfer ownership and register vehicle as applicable.  May be asked to assist with facilitating ongoing title training classes.


Daily Auto Paid Off Loan Report –pull titles and release liens on paid auto loans for distribution to dealers, other financial institutions, and members ensuring that all titles and paid contracts are mailed within 10 business days.


Post checks including dealer payoffs and loan/payoffs from members.

Process requests for name changes, dealer check pick-up/title exchange, out of state title requests, and other title related transactions.

Assist managing outstanding motor vehicles title reports to ensure adherence of required fulfillment timelines. 

Handles email and phone requests.

Follow up on paid loan pending file.

Other duties as required.

Minimum formal education required for this position:

High School Diploma or equivalent

(Preferred) Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or similar

Minimum work experience:

2+ years’ experience in Consumer Lending Processing

(Preferred) 1+ years’ experience motor vehicle titling / lien perfecting in a consumer lending environment

Technical or specialized knowledge/skills:

  • Basic knowledge of motor vehicle documents and requirements for all transaction types, including:

    • Private party purchases

    • Dealer purchases

    • Lease buy-outs

    • Refinance transactions

    • Free and clear titles

  • Basic knowledge of auto loan products.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Strong ability to problem solve.

  • Ability to analyze member and state provided motor vehicle documentation.

  • Proficient computer skills to include Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Organized, detail oriented, and ability to multi-task

  • None required.

Environmental, physical and psychological requirements:

  • Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time in a climate controlled environment. Must be able to use fingers, hands, wrists for repetitive tasks such as typing, using a mouse, handling paper, and operating a telephone.   Demands for visual and auditory acuity are typical of an office environment.  Must be able to interact via email, telephone, or in person with diplomacy, tact, and courtesy with all members under varying circumstances.  Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
