Are you a dynamic individual who can bring a passion for wine, energy and a refined palate to our team?  E. & J. Gallo Winery is seeking a Winemaker to join our family.  As a Research Winemaker, you will be supporting activities of the research winemaking process. You will be making wine in support of research projects according to standard procedures and to the specific needs of the project.

What You Will Do:

Research:


  • Produce research-scale wine in support of research projects; crushes grapes or uses frozen juice or reconstituted concentrates

  • Make chemical adjustments, inoculates with yeast, conducts pump overs, and monitors fermentations; racks and presses the wine, prepares wines for filtration and packaging.

  • Performs routine chemical treatments of the final wine before packaging; packages wines for sensory analysis 

Project Management:


  • Ensure all wines are made according to agreed-upon procedures and processes for both harvest and off-season experiments

  • Ensure all wines are produced and packaged in accordance to Good Manufacturing Practices

  • Collect, collate, and document all data collected during the winemaking and packaging processes.

  • Actively participates in bench tasting of wines produced in the Research Winery as part of making chemical adjustments and final bottling approval 

What You Need:


  • Bachelor's degree in Fermentation Science, Enology & Viticulture, Food Science, Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering OR a High School diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 4 years of fermentation science, winemaking, enology or viticulture experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.

  • Required to lift and move up to 50 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision (Judging Wine Color).

What Will Set You Apart:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Fermentation Science or Enology & Viticulture plus 2 years of fermentation science, winemaking, enology or viticulture experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.
