Manufacturing Engineer Intern at Zetec

Job Description:

Zetec, Inc. is currently seeking candidates for a paid summer Manufacturing Engineer Internship. The intern will work closely with our Engineering and Operations teams on key projects, as described below. This internship will be full-time (40 hours a week) for 12 weeks during the summer of months. Only local candidates will be considered.


Mechanical Inspector Certification Program.

  • Determine criteria for a qualified mechanical inspector

  • Establish a validation program for reviewing and approving qualified inspectors

  • Evaluate 3rd parties that can provide a certification program service

  • Create an internal certification program

  • Create a training program to prepare candidates for certification

Coil winding on ferrite magnet (Gorman winding machine)

  • Test run and validate performance

  • Work with engineering to complete development

  • Create work instructions and manuals

  • Integrate equipment into production and operations.

Paperless Shop order packets

  • Determine success criteria for planning, manufacturing, and quality

  • Assess paperless options that can be efficiently implemented at low cost (no major IT investments)

  • Create the tools and the process flow

  • Establish the implementation plan

  • Facilitate implementation

3D printing of production tooling

  • Redesign production tooling to be printable and orderable

  • Prototype and validate new design

  • Modify and update work instructions

  • Integrate equipment into production and operations.

Lead supplier selection team for chemical testing of materials (additional supplier research projects)

  • Establish criteria for supplier selection

  • Identify supplier candidates for chemical testing

  • Evaluate supplier candidate capabilities against required criteria

  • Create a recommendation presentation


  • Must be currently enrolled in a Manufacturing Engineering degree program (or equivalent) and have completed at least 2 years of coursework within your degree program

  • Excellent PC skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Self-starter with high tolerance to ambiguity and willingness to seek out answers

  • Ability to work with a diverse range of people including management, engineers, manufacturing leaders, and assembly employees

  • Basic understanding of business accounting and financial reports; able to create cost analysis from research – moderate complexity

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to be innovative
