The Retirement Counselor works within a corporate, call center environment. There could be limited travel due to training and/or onsite needs. This individual is responsible for assisting participants with consolidating assets into plan, servicing Income Flex participants and having holistic, consultative conversations around asset allocations with active participants in Prudential Retirement.  The Retirement Counselor executes on sales goals, takes inbound calls from the Participant Service Center (PSC) lead sources, pro-actively reaches out to prospects through outbound call campaigns.  They will be working closely with key personnel and departments such as PSC, Operations, Key Accounts, Dedicated Counselors and Relationship Managers.  This individual is responsible for partnering with Dedicated Counselors, creating new and managing existing relationships to increase revenue throughout assigned plans or territory. 


The Retirement Counselor must have a strong knowledge of defined contribution plans, defined benefit plans, individual retail products/services and investment options.  This is accomplished through a consultative sales approach providing holistic insight, guidance and education via the telephone and/or face to face. This position requires an individual that has a sales focus with excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), strong work ethic, superior organizational skills and a competitive drive to succeed.

  • Executes on Rollover- In team targets through timely inbound and outbound call activity on a daily basis with existing plan participants to strengthen relationships, identify opportunities for pipeline and effective consultative sales closing. This includes campaigns, new business not in good order items, and other lead sources as directed.

  • Partner with Dedicated Representative to develop additional plan participant prospects and execute an appropriate business plan to maximize plan rollover in sales.

  • Manages prospects' paperwork processing in an efficient manner to expedite processing and reduce rollover cycle times.  Proactively reaches out to contra-firms on behalf of the participant to accelerate timing.

  • Provide guidance to Prudential in-force and third party Income Flex (IFX) prospects and active participants.  Completes error-free handling of IFX lock-ins for these participants.

  • Having holistic, consultative retirement education discussions with active participants (e.g. enrolling, Investor Quiz, consolidating).

  • Resolves plan participant concerns pertaining to Rollover In activity or Income Flex inquiries.

  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements and streamlined operational processes between Rollover-In sales team and operational partners.

  • Participates in team meetings and training programs.

  • Completes all compliance training on time and maintains license requirements & designations as needed for the role.

  • Demonstrated success exceeding sales and service targets in an inbound and outbound call center environment and/or onsite locations (as needed basis).

  • Solid understanding of Prudential Retirement defined contribution plans, defined benefit plans and in-plan investment options; strong understanding of individual retirement products and services.

  • Strong sales support process orientation and organization.

  • Is able to succeed in a fast paced environment and is able to multi-task.

  • Communicates and partners with support areas to create a win-win sales and optimal client experience.

  • Tele-Selling Skills a plus; phone etiquette and consultative selling skills required.

  • Some travel (up to 10%) may be required.

  • Hours will be 10am-6pm EST

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred

  • 3 - 5 years of sales and/or service experience in Retirement or Financial Services industry

  • Demonstrated knowledge of defined contribution plans, defined benefit plans and individual retirement products/services and industry-related concepts

  • Excellent telephone and written communication skills

  • Strong teamwork orientation, attention to detail and time management

  • Background in customer service and call center environment a plus

  • FINRA Series 7 or 6 and Series 63 or 66 required

  • State Insurance license (within 90 days of hire)

  • Certified Retirement Counselor (CRC) Designation required (within 180 days of hire)
