Job Description:

Electrical Reliability Services is currently seeking an experienced Industrial DC Specialist to support our expanding service offerings in the Las Vegas service area. Preferred candidates will live within 50 miles of Salt Lake City, UT or be willing to relocate to Salt Lake City, UT.

Job Summary


Troubleshoot, test, pm, and inspect all types of DC (Charger, UPS, and Battery) systems. Perform as lead person on projects. Complex charger and UPS calibration, troubleshooting, and repair capabilities, use of load and power quality recording instrumentation and analysis of the data, capable of performing UPS startup procedures on all types of UPS systems. Supervise installations (Charger, UPS, and Battery) being performed by DC services or contract personnel.


  • Provide first level escalation support for fellow associates with-in the Area regarding batteries

     

  • Provide On-the-Job training as required on test equipment, batteries, and software as required

     

  • Provide Area Sales Service team with technical consultation, and provide technical assistance to the Area battery sales business.

     

  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

     

  • Performs many complicated work related tasks

     

  • Requires no direct supervision for daily operations based upon training

     

  • Leads and directs the work of other associates in the District

     

  • Provides guidance and instruction to others on complicated situations

     

Technical


  • Perform work related tasks according to company guidelines for scheduled maintenance

     

  • Troubleshoot, test, pm and inspect DC systems to identify problems

     

  • Maintain customer’s DC system in proper condition

     

  • Install battery systems according to the manufacturers specifications

     

  • Provide testing and analysis of battery capacity testing during start-ups

     

  • On-site support for battery replacements as required

     

  • Inspection and maintenance of the customer’s battery systems to identify potential problems

     

  • Provide special Battery testing in assigned Area, including but not limited to: load testing, individual and complete system testing, and cellcorder resistance testing.

     

  • Render on site and phone assistance to customers and fellow associates

     

  • Communicate with National Technical Support on procedural or technical issues

     

  • Perform work related tasks according to company guidelines for scheduled maintenance

     

  • Implement Field Change Notices according to published guidelines

     

  • Keep current on Safety Bulletins, Safety Field Change Notices, Field Change Notices, and Service Tips

  • Provide annual audit review of all area battery specialist and CE, regarding competencies of battery PM’s, annual maintenance and other testing of batteries.

     

  • Provide input for issues needing to be addressed for any re-training or clarification on batteries to the field regarding technical information.

Safety

 

  • Operate in a safe manner in accordance with published safety guidelines

     

  • Must wear appropriate PPE as per company guidelines and accordance with job duties

     

  • Adhere to work hours policy guidelines – “14 hours rule”

  • Report all work related accidents or injuries within 24 hours to the appropriate personnel.

     

Administration


  • Provide accurate and timely reporting according to company guidelines

    Time cards, expense reports, mileage reports, ticket closure, etc.

     

  • Maintain individual inventory in accordance with company policy

     

  • Provide estimated time of arrival to the Customer Response Center where applicable

     

  • Maintain company property according to company policies

    Vehicle, credit cards, PPE, test equipment, laptop, pager, etc.

Requirements



  • Graduate Engineer BSEE or BSEET and five years experience. OR Graduate of applicable Electrical Technical School or Military equivalent and nine years minimum same or similar work experience. OR High school education or equivalent and ten years minimum same or similar work experience.

     


  • Five years experience in hands-on UPS and battery service.

     


  • Excellent working knowledge of electricity UPS theory and the electro-chemical theory of batteries.

     


  • Strong Mechanical aptitude.

     


  • Product certifications and field knowledge assessment up to date

     


  • Must be able to read and interpret electrical line diagrams and blueprints.

     


  • Solid foundation of OHM’s law and electronic theory.

     


  • Ability to make an immediate site evaluation skills to include: environmental temperature, and general operating conditions without supervision.

     


  • Provide required technical fix/repair techniques as necessary.

     


  • Download pertinent operating information to provide independent troubleshooting evaluation.

     


  • Capable of completing tasks and return unit to full operating conditions based without direct supervision.

     


  • Ability to summarize and report all work related tasks performed.

     


  • Ability to give technical assistance via the telephone to customers on a regular basis, provide phone technical support to junior level associates.

     


  • Independently evaluate, recognize and recommend acceptable customer solutions based upon site evaluation.

     


  • Recommend and direct activities at a customer site by leading technical activities of other technicians at a customer site.

     


  • Provide on-site customer consultation.

     


  • Capable of providing project management and direct supervision for major projects as required at customer sites.

     


  • Function at a high proficiency level with electronic battery reporting software

     


  • Ability to provide battery trending analysis for all assigned customers based on existing battery maintenance reports.

     


  • Thorough understanding of battery manufacturer’s requirements and specifications.

     


  • Thorough understanding of Battery related IEEE standards, including but not limited to IEEE450-2002, IEEE 1188-1996

     


  • Thorough working knowledge of equipment used in the maintenance and testing of batteries and UPS systems, including but not limited to cellcorder, MK4,digital/mechanical hydrometers, DVM and accessories, DLRO, load test equipment and O-Scopes.

     


  • Travel is required (estimated 50%)

     


  • Flexible schedules (weekends, evenings, and holidays)

     


  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record

     

  • Deployable in event of emergencies

While performing duties of the above jobs, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or other components; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear and smell. The associate frequently is required to sit and climb or balance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have ability to regularly lift at least 50 pounds.
